In her report, Veronica Loveday writes about Women’s Rights Movement, during World War two, and many restrictions women faced. Women’s rights movement in the U.S. begun in the 1960s as a reaction to the decades of unfair social and civil inequities faced by women. Over the next thirty years, feminists campaigned for equality, such as equal pay, equal work , and abortion rights. Women finally gained the right to vote with the passage of the 19th amendment to the constitution in 1920.

Although the issue of women’s rights has attracted international recognition and support, women still face many inequalities and barriers. Gender-based violence and economic discrimination are problems in many parts of the world.

Some say that women remain at a disadvantage in education as well and women continue to make up more than most of students who drop out before completing the fourth grade, as well as making up for half of the world is one billion adults. Each year the number of females entering into higher educational programs and universities increases greatly. Another great thing for women is that of own body rights. In many nations abortions are legal and women have a wide variety of different things , such as birth control. This right in many nations remains as a central continuing debate issue.

The first public demand for the Constitutional Amendment of women’s rights began before the Civil War, however, the Amendment for it has still not been ratified in the United States Constitution. The introduction for the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) began in 1848 with the Woman’s Rights Convention in Seneca Falls. Over three hundred women and men met and eventually agreed that the resolution for women’s rights should be supported. Many supporters were abolitionists working against slavery supported that equality should be supported for both ethnicity and gender. However, as tensions increased before the Civil War, the rest of the country was not ready to take the issue seriously. After the Civil war, the 14th Amendment, which defined United States citizenship, and the 15th Amendment, which addresses the right to vote based on race, Susan B. Anthony and other women declared that the denial of a woman’s right to vote was unacceptable. In 1872, Anthony attempted to go to the polls and vote due to her right to citizenship under the 14th Amendment. She was arrested and eventually convicted because the courts believed that although she was a citizen, not all citizens had the right to vote. Until Susan B. Anthony’s death, she campaigned for the right to vote. And finally in 1920, the 19th Amendment was passed, stating that "The right of citizens of the

Throughout history women’s rights have been a conflict in society because of the many unfair advantages given to men and not women. Social injustice is shown through women’s rights by their voting rights, employment, and healthcare. Due to these dilemmas women all over the world have gathered together to create a group enforcing women’s rights. For example, in the book, The American Women’s Movement it talks about the group known as “The National Organization for Women (NOW)” (MacLean 71). It became one of the largest, most membered feminist organization in the country. The organization branched out to different sized region cities.

Women are not a minority anymore and yet they earn less than men. In the United States, a woman earns 77 cents for every dollar a man earns. The situation gets worse by the race of the woman, for example, an African-American woman gets 64 cents and a Hispanic one 54 cents for every dollar a white man does. Although salary equality for women is a subject that is a hot topic for years, in general females tempt to find a male partner who earns more money than them. To women is more important to find a partner who earns more money than them, as men like it to be the same way. Feminism is a collection of movements that share a common goal; to define, establish and defend equal, economic, cultural and social rights for women. Feminist activist campaign for women's rights like contract law, voting and property, while at the same time promoting bodily integrity and autonomy and reproductive rights for women. Feminist work to protect women and girls for domestic violence, sexual harassment and sexual assault. Feminist also advocate for equal rights in the workplace in conjunction with maternity leave and equal pay.

“By balancing the scales of equality, women and men will have an equal chance to contribute both at home and the workplace, thereby enhancing their individual well-being, and that of society” (About Workplace Gender Equality). Throughout history, women continuously progressed to reach this equality. This is evident with the Women’s Right Movement which pushed to break social and economic barriers. Women went from focusing on domestic responsibilities to working in places normally reserved for men. At this day in age, it seems as though that balance would already be maintained considering how much was accomplished, however this is untrue. Women are predisposed to less opportunities within the workforce when compared to men.

People were not only discriminated due to their race but some of their gender, which affected their political rights in a multitude of ways. To illustrate, one of the Colonies most unspoken laws, dating from Ancient Greece to 1920, is that women have no right to vote and that only the gentry could contribute in political matters according to the Governor. Additionally, a law from Great Britain in stated that if a landowning woman is to marry, she must sign a document stating she is giving her property to the husband. However, in the case of Anne Cart, a wealthy indigo farmer who was engaged, she testified to a jury that the land was worth more under her ownership and she won the right to own it. Another example is that 97% of court cases involving dark magic is directed towards women accused of witchcraft and found that 78% of the women are convicted and hung. This shows that in the 16th century, people thought women were generally inferior to men and treated them as such politically.

Feminism is the belief that people of all different backgrounds should be treated justly and fairly. Feminists believe that all people deserve equal pay to those in the same job. Otherwise put, “Feminism is an interdisciplinary approach to issues of equality and equity based on gender, gender expression, gender identity, sex, and sexuality as understood through social theories and political activism.” (EKU “What is Feminism?”) Such as, if a man in the same job doing the same things as a woman in that same job, they should be treated as equals. They should both earn the same amount of money for the job that they do. However, the wage gap is pushing this away from well-working women. If a man earns one dollar, a woman today earns just seventy-nine cents. This is unacceptable in many ways. Women are no different from men. They both can be hardworking and loyal employees. Sexism in the workplace is pushing single mothers and women back farther to being able to support themselves and support their families.

There came a time in the United States where the so called Equal rights amendment has been ratified. Where women were recognized as housewives, defining them as what women are suppose to do and nothing else. Although these women wanted more in life such as freedom to do what they want just like men do everyday. If the men were able to work,vote, speak, and do as they please then why couldn't women do the same? If everyone had equal rights. Women aren't to be defined as what their identity is or what race they are nor the capabilities and responsibilities they are capable of doing.I strongly agree with these women of wanting to be equal with man because if it wasn't for the woman's right movement, our society today wouldn't allow women to work, teach, play a sport. Basically do a man’s job. Additionally having the woman as housewives because that's what the society and men thought of women, being at home to care for the kids and household. That is why we thank the women's rights movement in our past history that started in 1848. Due to that more girls and women have come to think of themselves as the equals of men. Which has transformed our lives in many ways. For example such as equal pay work as well as even being in the workforce,in general. Over several centuries, women have been fighting for their rights. There has been certain changes to benefit women, but they seem to be invisible. We still live in a society where there is gender inequality in all aspects. Including the pay gap, the barriers stopping them to advance in the workforce, health care rights, and justice when speaking about violence (victim blaming). Recognized as “women’s issues” there has been little or no support from several candidates that have run for president; however, the 2016 elections seem to be different. One of the Democate candidates, Hillary Clinton has been fighting for women’s rights and has proposed to make changes for good so that there can be inequality among each other. She states that, “ issues that affect women’s lives are not just “women’s issues”—they are family issues, they are economic issues, and they are crucial to our future competitiveness.” Once, in the office, she will focus on equality and opportunities for girls and women as they are important the future just like men. This issue has been around for years. Some people argue that women will never people treated equally in a society that is ruled by men. Others contend that over the past year women have been on the “ Second Shifts”, having a job where they are getting paid and the house work job which they do not get paid.
