They are there for information, help and support.
Health Care Professionals – Where a child has a developmental need, we often work with a range of health professionals such as speech and language therapists. Their function is to provide information and advice using different methods to help the child overcome or improve a difficulty.
Recently a speech therapist visited our setting before a child attended sessions at our playgroup. Together we made an in depth plan of action for staff to follow in order to help the child’s speech develop further.
The speech therapist will have regular contact with the child, parent and GP to ensure the best possible outcome for the child. We too can contact health professionals at any required time or if an issue arises within the setting.

Common barriers for integrated working and multi- agency working, is not everyone will agree on things and different professions may work in different ways and word things differently. People may
have been trained in a different role to which they may find it difficult to be managed by a person with different skills. Some people may not be used to sharing their knowledge with others. It’s important that each profession respect one another and that they value there knowledge and expertise by doing this it will make better multi-agencies working together.

There are many social, economical and cultural factors that impact on the lives of children and young people. In my role as a Young Carer’s Support Worker, I work with a number of families living with the consequences of these factors. Every Child Matters (ECM) aims to improve the outcomes and life chances of every child and young person, therefore, it is important we understand and do all we can to help them achieve the 5 outcomes of the ECM, stay safe, be healthy, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution, and, achieve economic well-being.
This helps practitioner’s work together for the welfare of children. It promotes the Every Child Matters outcomes to reinforcing how important it is for all child careers to work together.
1.Understand the principles of inter-professional working within health and social care or children and young people’s setting.
When looking at children and young people’s development it is important to recognise and respond to concerns to ensure that the child or young person receives the help and assistance needed.
As child practitioners we must work on our skills in communicating with children because the way we communicate with them is important not only for their communication and language development, but also the development of our relationship with them. Young children often aren't able to express their thoughts and feelings in words, or express them poorly. Because of this, it's important that child practitioners can listen carefully and help children to learn how to express themselves and also provide what they need.

Multi-Agency working is carried out by health professionals from different sectors and professions such as nurses, social workers and mid wives working together to achieve a common goal. It will look at key government legislation in respect to child welfare and pay particular note to high profile cased where interagency working has appeared to be less that effective in maintaining safeguards for vulnerable children, in particular. Consideration will be given to models of working that support interagency collaboration and of how some of these models may have been implemented in current
Clear and effective communication between partners is required so that employers will have a clear understanding of what the goals of the organization are. Clear speech is important so the other person/people can understand you are saying.
Multi agency and integrated working supports early intervention and maintains focus on the child/young person because more than one agency is working with the family. It avoids duplication because the agency best equipped deals with the areas there are able too.

A couple weeks ago I spoke with a speech language pathologist who currently works at a pediatric clinic in the Iowa City area.
