“You might not write well every day, but you can always edit a bad page. You can’t edit a blank page” (Jodi Picoult, N.D.). Quote, Question and Connection all bring the writer to think deeper into the subject their writing about, one must read the content but from the content they must derive a thought, an opinion, and a response from what they read and all must be composed on paper. The paper is the piece that blends all together into what the papers about, without the writing you would merely have a thought or idea floating within your head the writing is what helps one to express themselves and helps them acquire the skills needed to put forth the whole message of what they want or need to say.

It is essential to understand that classes taken in grade school do not give students a full understanding of each subject. With the topic of writing, there will always be a new lesson to learn, an aspect to improve, or a differing way to explain. Author Craig Vetter states in Bonehead Writing, “This is your enemy: a perfectly empty sheet of paper. Nothing will ever happen here except what you make happen.” Each story, essay, or response comes from a writer’s experiences. With each attempt at a new piece comes an underlying story of emotions the writer is facing. Each person’s writing is unique and the ideas people have are related to their past experiences and what they believe to be familiar with when deciding which writing style to use. As a high school student, I have learned many things about writing that helped me become the improved writer I am today, but the most essential advice I have received is practice makes perfect. Although there is no actual perfect way of writing, I have discovered that each essay I write, my writing improves. It is easier to spot mistakes, find areas to improve, and ponder elevated word choice to use.
The impact both reading and writing have had on me throughout my school years has always been changing. While I have always struggled with reading comprehension, and anxiety in putting my thoughts into words when writing, I have found some relief when I am able to connect to a character in a book, or given freedom to find a topic I am interested in; which makes me excited and passionate about sharing my thoughts through writing.
Writing is a form of communicational practice that grants the writer the ability to provoke conversation. Communication is the way that we are able to voice our ideas,” I wanted my students to find a way to talk back to those other writers.” (426 Sommers) Sommers wants her students to be able to develop the skills to debate and to not accept the social norm. She wants her students to be able to think on their own without others thinking for them,” Borrowing words from authorities had left me without any words of my own.” (423 Sommers) Being
In today’s society one would not be able to communicate effectively with the world if writing was not involved. People all around the world send emails, texts, and letter to numerous amounts of individuals each second. Talking on the phone is slowly becoming a thing of the past while the writing side of technology is taking over. The meaning of writing is changing in society. Writing used to be specifically for academics or the occasional letter to a loved one. As time has passed writing has taken more forms and more meanings. In the world we live in now writing is classified as texting, emailing, instant messaging, and even comments or tweets on social media. Although writing has these multiple new forms, it still holds its academic side strongly. Everything with meaning in turn affects a person’s day to day life. Writing has the effect of making one more intellectual. Writing has become a bridge between communication and the cultures and people of today’s society. It gives way for different options in stating sentences or phrases. (Olson). Each affect should change with age. As a person grows older, their writing styles should mature and take on a more professional aspect.
According to journalist William Zinsser, a writer must be clear in order to write well. A writer who fills his/her pages with pretentious words, flattery prose, or intricate syntax clouds up his/her sentences and prevents the reader from fully understanding the message at hand. Therefore, Zinsser contends that good writing is achieved when bombastic language and confusing words are avoided. Indeed, stripping “every sentence to its cleanest components”, removing excess verbiage, and molding words into coherent, simple structures prevents the reader from getting lost in a whirlwind of words and thus allows him/her to fully grasp the author’s message (Zinsser 6). In short, clarity leads to writing that is done well.
Writing is about telling your story to the world and changing the perspective of how things appear to you. Writing is about sharing your voice with the world one word at a time. It’s about creating your own opinion statement with just the right amount of detail. All writers have something they want to say, and everyone is a writer. The most important thing you should always remember as a writer is believing in yourself. If you can believe in your writing, then you can achieve the impossible and know this is a paper worth turning in.
Ever since the fourth grade, where we had to practice writing for our FCAT Writes, I had become absolutely entranced by the concept of writing your ideas, thoughts, and creativity on a blank piece of paper. With nothing but a prompt or your own mind encouraging the flow of words that would cascade from my mind to my hand. My friends and family would often say that I smiled the most whenever I was scrawling on a sheet of paper. However, even though I enjoyed writing I was always searching for tips to improve considering that I was never satisfied with anything that looked subpar. In my mind, the characteristics of good writing was always having a paper that would catch the reader’s attention, the words would just flow into one another without sounding choppy
Writing makes possible to us expressing in a paper what we cannot communicate by talking. For this reason, the writer must make his composition readable and understandable in order to get the idea by the reader of what he is attempting to communicate. This requires a whole writing process that I have experienced thus far this semester in my English Composition I Honors Course. I have recognized what my strengths and weaknesses in writing are. So that, focusing more on my weaknesses than my strengths will help me to improve much more my writing skills by the end of the semester.
Writing is more than simply picking up a pencil and making lines or hitting keys on a keyboard. The amount of thought that goes into a piece is what gives it value. This is why critical thinking is one of the most important things for a writer. Most papers are constructed through multiple sources or ideas; however, a writer must maintain an independent voice while synthesizing different views or their voice will be lost in a jumble of separate ideas. In order to synthesize different ideas, writers must be able to see different perspectives. By objecting one side of an argument and countering its stance, the writing becomes powerful because it can change minds. Synthesizing ideas, opposing positions, and independent are all factors that create
The importances of writing and becoming a great writer was stressed both in the reading “How to Say Nothing in 500 Words” and also the film clip “The Essentials of Writing”. Both stressed the importances of making sure you have a clear direction on where you want your paper to go. Making sure you write down all your ideas and to insure that you indeed make your writing flow in a certain manor. Both the film and the article both talked about the importances of not wasting words and time to make a point to use the best words to describe or say what ever you are trying to say. One point that was bought more then one time on both the film and also the reading was to make sure whatever you are writing is something different then what others are writing make sure writing is able to stand out because you never know how the person maybe feeling who is ever reading your writing and also if he has seen multiple papers one the same subject saying the somethings. They both had great knowledge on how to create a better writer and steps you should take before starting a writing assessment I plan on using the writing techniques learned from both the film and the reading to help improve my writing skills.
Written is important in that it allows for communication to take place. In fact, writing is a nonverbal means of transmitting messages from one point that is represented by the author to the perspective of the reader. The reader is the audience that the writer seeks to communicate to through the art of writing. Clarity and simplicity of language, precision in grammar, attention to spelling, expressions, and sentences structure, among other aspects, are elements that bear primary significance in writing. Without proper and consistent application of these elements, the resonance that binds the reader to the writer’s work may be compromised. Worse still, poor communication elements in a written work may compromise the meaning and intentions of messages

Writing is a tool used in many subjects, and it has a great deal of importance in our society. In this article written by Fish, the reader is given his perspective on what a writing course should encompass. Fish begins the article by pointing out the problem with english composition classes today. On the first page he mentions how one day ,while grading papers, he noticed that his graduate students did not write clean proper sentences. Fish took it upon himself to find out why students lack simple writing skills and how english composition professors can fix it? After finding the answers to his questions Fish came to the conclusion that the only way to teach writing is by focusing on technique and sentence structure. He believes that once a student masters the skills it takes to write then they can write successfully. Writing is used daily and it is important that we master the ability. Fish has a good argument that supports the focus on writing technique, but he misses the importance of other writing factors such as evidence, audience, and rhetoric.
Thoughts and language are the foundation that is required to create writing. Writing is a unique form of expressing thoughts. Even children can express their thoughts in words, and call their work a piece of writing. However writing should be used as a way to express worldly views. Writing should be used to explain, to share, to provoke. The simple concept of thoughts on paper can influence generations, and create meaning. Everything from the Bible, to the Declaration of Independence has influenced millions of people. This concept of thoughts on paper can also be categorized as effective writing, or plain words on paper. However, the characteristics of good writing consists of deep explanations of the world around us, and can emotionally
