As a volunteer at the YMCA, I was able to revamp my communication skills through brainstorming ideas within the organization. In the time period of 1 year and 8 months, I aided key components of the organization such as the aquatics department and lifesaving programs. One of the major learning outcomes that I gained from this experience was the importance of being a team player. Working alongside fellow volunteers gave me the opportunity to learn about succeeding as one working unit. It became clear that giving feedback, aiding one another and setting a good example was crucial in order to progress. Under our strategic plan we worked towards making connections: connecting people, connecting with the youth and connecting with the community.
In this organization I can contribute by showing my full potential I’m a very hardworking and determined person, I will help by being focused and assertive with everything I do. I have learned a lot from being the co-captain of the jv cheerleading team last winter and also being the captain for the jv cheerleading team this season, I have learned that communication is the key to all success and that if you don’t communicate things will become more difficult for you and your peers around you. Another thing I’ve learned is to adapt to change quickly and that any change that you or others make can be for tthe greater good of you and them, during last season of me being co-captain i learned to persevere through anything that i find hard and I
The first thing I learned from being on a team was responsibility. Volleyball stressed this concept heavily because members relied on each other to be at practice and games so that we can grow and bond together to form a stronger team. With this responsibility came learning how to effectively communicate. Communication was essential especially in a coach to athlete situation, much like a boss to employee scenario, because if we could not attend practice or we were injured, the coach (boss) had to know. I strive to be an effective communicator at my current job and future career in graphic design so that my customers can get the best experience possible. With my ever-improving skills in communication, holding responsibility for myself and this Bay scholarship, I will be able to reach my goal of living a successful life as a graphic
Excellent communication is key to the success of any program. In order to have an efficient program, all members of the department have to communicate effectively. Whether it be the coaches, players, athletic trainers, athletic directoChapter VI
For the past six months, I became an active member as well as the senior support counselor at a non-profit organization called Spirit Club. The program focuses on enhancing its members’ gait, strength, agility, flexibility, stability, and cardiovascular endurance. As a senior support counselor, my goal is to educate, support, and motivate individuals with special needs to perform assigned exercises by their personal trainers. In addition, I volunteered for Keng Foundation in my hometown, Bafut, Cameroon as a Health Program Coordinator. I educated people in my community with low socioeconomic status on health care. I also implemented prevention strategies against STD's and HIV AIDS. The extracurricular activities have helped me improve my leadership skills as I have became a more organized, proactive, enthusiastic, and a good team worker. This will allow me to further showcase my talents and build a sustainable rapport with my

3.Team spirit. As a part of a new team, share your ideas and thoughts with your team members. Don't try to show your talent alone, because when you are in a team you should work together. You should think and work out on new ideas as a team. Let your colleagues know that you are interested to work in a team, show your support to them.
Even at the hospital gift shop, I find myself experiencing all sorts of adventures. Before volunteering I had never worked so closely with adults. At the gift shop I learned how to do simple things like make small talk. I’ve since learned that this seemingly trivial skill is essential to making connections in any workplace. Over the years, the gift shop manager, Teresa, and I have become quick friends. After my first volunteer session, she recommended me for a leadership position at the hospital volunteer center.
The paradox is that the Varsity team is comprised of athletes with the best technical and conditioning skills. Team members should have both strong technical and interpersonal skills. However, reality does not always match to theory as in the case of the Varsity Crew, which lacked the interpersonal skills to mesh well as a team. This aforementioned concept is a component of the Characteristics of Team Excellence, created by Larson and LaFasto, and we will discuss more components from this model during our presentation. Further, The Hill Model for team leadership states that effective team performance is dependent on the leader, which suggests that it was Coach P’s responsibility to ensure that the interpersonal relationships between team members were healthy and that any conflict was managed
By assuming an officer role in the American Medical Student Association, I gained leadership skills that taught me to socialize and communicate more effectively with professionals while building interpersonal relationship with my peers. In my junior year, I was blessed with an opportunity to go on a medical mission trip to Haiti. During our first day of clinic, language posed to be the biggest barrier between our team and the Haitians. Though we had translators accompany us to the villages, it was important for me to make our patients feel at ease. By learning simple greetings in Kreyol, not only were they overjoyed and surprised, but they were also more comfortable interacting with us. Holding their hands while they explained their ailments, replaced their initial apprehension with trust in us and our treatment plans. Not only did this allow us to temporarily relieve them of their symptoms, but we were able to educate them on preventative care, personal hygiene, and water treatments that could relieve them of problems in the
During my journey of coaching, my first accomplishment is the NETA. When I began the NETA, I only knew one of my group members and even then, we were not as close. I was worried as the assignment needed to be detailed and there were many parts that were required for completion. A problem that I have is teamwork and relying on others to complete their parts. In this group, it was a new experience for me as all group members were active, helpful and driven. In my defence, I am used to being paired with students in high school that do not care and tend to rely on me. Anyways, this was an opportunity for me to improve my teamwork skills and implement my coaching skills.
Also, develop the skills working together and focus on peers and the community as a whole.
At every level of any team sport communication is one of the most vital components to success. Because teams are often comprised of players who have not played together, getting to know each other well is essential to having strong communication. As captain and center position I got to know
Communication and interpersonal skills was obviously crucial to this position. To illustrate, I was instrumental in defusing an escalating gang dispute within one of our housing development areas. I observed an increase in activity in the area and the children were constantly saying they were afraid. The neighboring school contacted me directly and I arranged for an assembly of the children from the neighborhood and actively listened to their concerns. After compiling information gathered from the neighbors, children, and business owners, I advised the commander of the district and presented a possible solution. Consequently, a positive outcome was attained, these individuals were removed from the community and encouraged to move from the city.
This inquiry learning experience is designed to give students the opportunity to explore the metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly (see appendix). Through this experience, children will practice the skills of observing, communicating, classifying and inferring. These skills are integrated in the lessons and allow children to construct knowledge about how caterpillar will change into a butterfly following certain developmental growth sequence. Children need to collect information about the life cycle of a butterfly using their science journals to record observations and questions and assess their understanding. The learning strategies vary from individual to a whole group activity and small group activity and ensure that teachers are giving individual attention and encouragement for students to express ideas and thoughts and practice writing in their journals. In this experience, children will be giving the opportunity to observe the transformation process in their class as part of real life experience while observing real caterpillar transforming into a butterfly. More activities such as songs, sequence cards game, charts, drawing, stories and audio visual videos (See appendix) are there to reinforce the understanding of the concept. A fieldtrip to a place where they rear butterflies will be very beneficial as well if such a place does exist. It would be an amazing educational experience for students and teachers to visit and witness this amazing natural
