The novel Hero by Mike Lupica tells about a young boy named Zach Harriman realizing he has special powers and that there are people out in the world trying to make him turn over to the bad side, the people that use their powers for harm and not for the good cause. Zach's father, Tom Harriman, died a few months before Zach knew he was unlike others. His father worked as a special advisor to the President of the United States, doing secret operations for the President. His father was killed in a plane crash, and at the crash site the unusual thing was that no bodies were found. Zach begins to think that his father's death was no accident but murder. His father used to tell him bedtime stories of the Bads and the Good of how the used to fight

Zack's ability to block out others to get what he wants becomes very obvious later on in the short story. It becomes apparent through the form of lack of consideration towards his loves ones. He does what he wants at the time and does not consider others. It is first noticed when he becomes
As time goes on and new generations come about, many of the ideals of former generations seem to become irrelevant. Scott LaBarge, a professor of philosophy, elaborates on this idea and others in his essay. “Why Heroes Are Important” is LaBarge’s pursuit to persuade others of his idea of heroes in today’s society. He claims that many of our youth do not know what a proper hero is and that former generations should be educating them. LaBarge begins his persuasion by describing his personal experience and credibility; then, he briefly describes the history of heroes to tie in his opinion on the definition; finally, he uses Aristotle’s idea of Kairos to explain how his opinion proves true according to current events.
Harriman realizes that people are going to try to take him to the bad side. The only person he tells this too is Kate, the housekeeper's daughter. Zach's Uncle, John, also knows of Zach's ability he tells him that even his dad had certain powers. Zach was in a conflict to choose who the right person to trust was. He decided that Mr. Herbert was teaching him more techniques while Uncle John was holding him back. Zach's mom works for Senator Kerrigan, and they were having a speech in Central Park that day. That’s when will Zach was backstage listening to the Senator speech, but as the scanned the crowd he saw a sniper aiming directly at Senator. He dove at the Senator just before the first shot rang out. Then, out of nowhere Mr. Herbert grabs Zach and moves him out of the way and tells him to always look out for the second bullet. Zach recognizes that Mr. Herbert was shot and just before he died he told Zach that he was his grandfather, which made no sense because his father said he was an orphan. In the end of the novel Zach sets his mind to take on all the Bads, and that they should be afraid of
“I’m part of the Witness Protection Program, and I can’t stand that i’m lying to everybody that ‘knows me’,” proclaimed a person in the Witness Protection Program. Just like the person in the quote, Zach felt he was living a lie when he had to change his identity for the witness protection program. After Zach’s father was caught smuggling drugs on a plane, bad men such as Alonzo and his men broke into Zach and his family's house. His family was put into Witness Protection Program where they were forced to change their identity and move to Elko, Nevada. In Elko Zach meets a man named Sam Sebesta. Alonzo and his men eventually find Zach in Nevada but Sam saves Zach from the bad men. Since the author gave clues about Sam’s true identity Zach knew Sam must’ve had a different identity before becoming a custodian. In Zach’s Lie, Roland Smith reveals Sam’s true identity of a spy by showing how calm Sam stays throughout the book, showing Sam talents, and showing how good Sam is at setting traps.
will likely help improve the interpersonal relationship between Patrick and Zach and help the two be
My first character to support that “School” is an appropriate title is Zach Powers. Yes, Zach was one of the many characters in this novel to be schooled. He hated people for reasons that he didn’t really have or were good reasons to have hate. Zach doesn’t hang out with the people that are less popular than him. This results in many people having hate back at him, but this does not bother him because he thinks he is “cool.” On page 201, Zach says,”I was kind of starting to appreciate that guy.” In this he’s referring to Hugh. Now, if you asked Zach in the beginning, he would never say a word to Hugh, but now since he has no one else left, he realizes how “cool” of a person Hugh actually is. This wouldn’t have happened unless Zach was schooled.
Small or big, everything we do in life is part of our journey. Reg Harris’ “The Hero’s Journey” describes the voyage one takes throughout life to grow and change as a person. He breaks the journey down into eight steps leading to the return. It starts out as a goal that isn’t always easy to reach, one goes through hardship and personal doubts only to succeed and become a better person. An example of this journey can be found in the movie, Troy through the character Achilles. Achilles is a strong fearless warrior in the movie, Troy who goes through “The Hero’s Journey” and ends up with a change of heart.
This means that Zach had to look on the bright side of things and keep going with his new life even though everything

During the first pages of The Game, Zach, the hero of the story is dying. He suddenly wakes up and is in the body of a seventeen-year-old. This is because Zach lives in a world called Tygon, where at young age children are put into “The Game”. Zach is one of the lucky players who started as an orphan when all of the sudden he rockets into one of the top positions. He is picked up by a patron (sponsor), Brandon Strayne, the maker of The Game. Zach is seventeen and is turning eighteen in a few weeks, and he has two choices, he could play it safe and retire in a really good position, or he could risk it all and retire in the number one spot. This has only happened eleven other times in the thirty years of The Game. George Knight was an

However, his reality is now based on these objects vs. what is truly real. In Truman’s second phase he starts to believe that something is wrong with his world based also on his perception and his common sense. First, his father Kirk who had been written out of the show years earlier sneaks back onto the set. This sends Truman into a teenage flashback of his last moments with Lauren a girlfriend that had tried to tell him the truth before she was written off to Fiji. He also notices that the radio is following him around and people all around him are acting very strange. At this point he does not know what is wrong but he knows he is onto “something big” as he tells his “best friend” Marlon.
