The Strength of a Betrayed Women In the Islamic/Muslim religion husbands are allowed and sometimes even expected by their families to take more than one wife.
These customs may allow the taking of more than one wife, but it does not hurt the women any less. Betrayal hurts weather its custom or not. Tradition seems to force Islamic women into roles they have to accept rather than what they want out of life. This tradition probably causes some kind of emotional issues. Tradition is important, but as the world modernizes so will the newer generations. The new more modern women will find ways to overcome Polygamy.

Ramatoulye married for love, the narrator of the bloody chamber married for comfort; however they both did value the marriage until they were both betrayed by the men in their lives.
The narrator’s best friend was her mother like Ramatoulye and Aissatou they shared things and were very close almost like she could read her mind when she made the phone call to her mother , because the narrators never told her to come it was as if she just knew the daughter needed her.
Betrayal is a big part of both So Long a Letter and The Bloody Chamber. Betrayal by the husbands one by committing adultery , the other by lies and planning to murder her and finding out that the husband had also murdered his three previous wives.
Both of the women were hurt, deceived and lied to by the men in their life on some level. The stories may not be the same, but the hurt anger and distress is the same for all involved.
Friendship also plays a large part in both stories, their friendships keep them going and in the narrators case saved her life. No matter what a person’s religion or social status friendship is an important part of our day to day life.
Shame is a part of both stories Ramatoulaye was embarrassed and ashamed of how her husband had treated her she knew everyone in town knew what was going on, that was very hurtful for her. The narrator of the bloody chamber was ashamed because she had a permanent
