1) In an experiment, participants are usually assigned to treatments using a random assignment procedure. Random assignment ensures that each participant is equally likely to be selectd for any treatment. This will help avoid any biases in the experiment at the outset. Due to initial randomization, any difference in outcome for treatment groups will be solely on account of the treatment and not due to any other external factor.
