Quaternary structure of protein

1. When two or more peptide chains with folded tertiary structures comes together into one complex structure is called          quaternary structure.

2. Each individual polypeptide chain is called subunit of overall protein.

3. for example- haemoglobin consist of four subunits held together by intermolecular forces. Haemoglobin can do its           function of oxygen transport only when all four subunits are together.

4. Individual subunits may have different conformations and orientations which would enable them to perform functions        in a regular manner.

5. This structure allows a protein to have multiple functions like in enzymes.
