4- By hand construct diagrams for the shear force and bending moment distributions.
5- Determine the values and positions of maximum shear force and bending moment

7- Calculate the maximum stress due to bending moment for a rectangular cross section having a width of 10 ??
and height of 40 ??.

Project 1:
Simply supported beams are usually used in structures due to their high stability and performance in resisting
shear stress and bending moment. They are applied in variety of applications such as steel-frame used for cars'
chassis and bridges. Your role in a structure design company is to analyze and design the bridge based on simply
supported beam theory. Your manager asked you to calculate the distribution of shear force, bending moment
and stress due to bending for bridge modeled as simply supported beam shown in the Figure.1, this task is best
achieved by performing the following required steps:
250 kN
40 kN/m
20 kN/m
I (m)

Figure.1: Simply supported beam
Your tasks are as follows:
1- Construct free-body diagram (FBD) to show the reactions forces and moments, equivalent force of the
distributed load.
2- Show FBD for each required section/cut and the internal forces and moments.
3- Write the distribution functions of the shear force and bending moment for each cut in the beam.
