Expert Answer

Step 1

The boiling point of a substance is defined as a temperature at which a substance gets converted from liquid state to gaseous state. The boiling point of a compound is directly proportional to its intermolecular forces of attractions and molecular mass of the compound.

Step 2

The given substances are CO2, Ne, CH3OH, and KF. In the given compounds, KF is an ionic compound in which atoms are attached via strong intramolecular forces of attraction. The boiling point of KF is 1505 oC.

In the given compounds, neon (Ne) is an inert gas in which atoms of neon are attached via very weak intramolecular forces of attraction. The boiling point of neon (Ne) is -246.08 oC.

In the given compounds, CO2 and CH3OH are covalent compounds. Methanol (CH3OH) has hydrogen bonding but CO2 has no hydrogen bonding and no dipole moment (due to linear structure). The boiling point of CH3OH is 64.7 oC and the boiling point of CO2 is -57 oC.

Step 3

From the above discussion it is clear that KF has highest boiling point whereas neon (Ne) has lowest boiling point. The decreasing order of boil...
