Question

Describe when and why bend testing (flexural testing) is most advantageous.

Expert Solution
Step 1

Flexural testing is done to determine the flexural modulus or flexural strength of the material. In this test the specimen is held between two contact points and subjected to bending by applying force at one or two points of contact until the sample fails. The maximum value of the force is the measure of the flexural strength of that specimen.
