Acceleration due to gravity is the acceleration produced in an object when it is pulled by the gravitational force of attraction of the earth. 

As the gravitational force on the object due to the earth depends on the mass of the earth, so if we go  deeper inside the earth, the effective mass of the earth which applies gravitational attraction towards the centre of the earth reduces.
