Biome

Biome is a large area of land characterised by its vegetation, soil type, climate and animals.  Biome constitutes community of plants and animals that are adapted to that particular environment. There are mainly three types of biomes:

  • Terrestrial  Biome: Terrestrial biome consists of grasslands, deserts, forests etc.
  • Freshwater Biome:  Freshwater biome consists of freshwater, lakes and rivers.
  • Marine Biome:  Marine biome consists of continental shelves, tropical coral and kelp forests.

There is also another area known as ecotone which is the boundary between two ecosystems and contains the feature of both the ecosystems.
