Question

Find the speed of the rotating field of a six-pole,
three-phase motor connected to (a) a 60-Hz line and
(b) a 50-Hz line, in revolutions per minute and
radians per second.

Expert Solution
Step 1

Given data,

  • The value of number of poles is P = 6

a) When frequency is f = 60 Hz.

The expression for speed of rotating field n is given as,

n=f2P60=6026×60=1200 rpm

Since 1 rpm = 2π60 rad/sec

Therefore,

n = 1200 rpm in rad/sec is,

n=1200×2π60=1200×2×3.1460=125.6 rad/sec
