Fostering Nutritional Development is crucial in
the life of a young child. For this discussion
board, you will investigate why and how.
1) Briefly explain your history and or views
regarding nutrition and diet. Would you say
those views come from your experience,
influence from others around you or your own
upbringing?
2) Address this scenario:
You are a parent of a toddler around 16
months and a 5 year old. As a result of the
pandemic, you really have not been focusing
on nutrition for them of yourself. It is super
easy to pop a frozen pizza or some chicken
nuggets in the oven. You are juggling so much
and this strategy gets the job done and keeps
your sanity. There is no need to kick yourself as
a parent! Let's move on and do better. How
can you as a parent change the meals that you
are providing your children at this point of their
lives? Keep in mind that providing healthy
meals is not always the cheapest route.
Plan a 3-day menu for their meals. You are to
keep in mind the portion size and the fact that
the children have not been exposed to this type
of food for nearly 2 years now.
Let's not forget about yourself! Plan a 3-day
menu for yourself as well.
You must include: Breakfast, snack, Lunch,
snack, Dinner (in a chart...see sample below)
Also create a shopping list and price of the foods
Include a balance of foods of fresh and foods
that you can buy that are already packaged that
aren't that bad nutrition-wise. Remember, you
still want it to be easy on yourself. Are there any
healthy/semi-healthy snacks that you can buy
that are ready to hand off to your child/you to
consume? Your list and menu should be cost-
effective and nutritious for the most part.

lunch, 1 dinner and 1 snack for your children.
Create/find a picture of at least 1 meal for
yourself. Explain why the presentation of foods
is or is not important.
4) Name at least one APP or resource/object
that promotes nutrition for yourself and explain
how. Tell us a little about the resource. Be sure
to include the price if applicable. How can you
stay on track nutrition wise moving forward?
5) What are your thoughts on eating as a
family? What are your thoughts on eating with
technology at the table
(phones/television/etc.). Feel free to express
yourself. This is a no-judgement zone. At the
end of the day, you need to do what works
best for YOUR family.
6) Final thoughts on nutrition and any new
ideas that you take away from this assignment
and research
