How do you define a project and how is a project different from what most people do in their day-to-day jobs?

Expert Solution
Step 1

A project can be defined as a effort, using a combination of human, technical, administrative, financial resources in order to achieve a specific goal within a fixed time period.

Projects are temporary in nature which  have a definite beginning and a definite end. The projects get completed when the objective has been achieved. The project deliverables which have to be delivered at the end of the project are unique. Projects create a unique product or a service.

As an example, let us consider the example of steel plant. The construction of a steel plant is a project. It gets terminated when the plant is completed. Few examples of projects are,

 a) Construction of new facility.

 b) Expansion of existing facility.

 c) Development of a new product or a service.

 d) Creation of new information systems and software.
