Question

State the expected changes in the arterial blood gas
measurements with rationale for compensated acidosis
with shock.

Expert Solution
Step 1INTRODUCTION

Arterial blood gas is a blood test which we can use to measure the level of oxygen and carbon dioxide, acidity, ph from the artery. This test is mainly used to check the functioning of the lungs and gaseous exchanges. This test is done for the patient if he is having any serious illnesses or diseases.

Step 2EXPLANATION

If the ph does not range between the normal level, then it is considered to be a partial compensation. This abnormality usually causes an acute change in the body's functioning ability. Compensatory acidosis is caused due to hypoventilation in the body which includes respiratory depression. It is caused by lung disease that normally affects the breathing pattern and impairs the lung's ability to remove the co2. If acidosis occurs, then HCO3 and ph of the body will fall and there is no changes occur in PCO2.

Rationale:

  • Provide the sodium bicarbonate to the patient through IV infusion because it will balance the acids in the blood.
  • Prevent the body from making too many of acids.
  • Buffering acids with a base to balance blood acidity.
  • Getting rid of excessive acids.
  • Provide medication to the patient to remove acidity from the body and to relieve other symptoms like bronchodilators, steroid drugs, and oxygen.
