A thread is a simple machine structure mainly used to convert the the linear motion of force into rotational motion and vice versa.


It is the distance between the centre of the crest of two threads.


The angle between the two flanks of the thread is called angle of the thread.

Thread depth:

It is the perpendicular distance between the crest and root of the thread. Thus, the thread depth is measured along the crest of the thread.
