What is replicon ?

Expert Solution
Step 1

All life on Earth, whether unicellular or multicellular, is sustained through replication, a vital factor in biology. Throughout all species, millions of replications occur at any given time. DNA is found in almost every cell. DNA is the parent molecule that codes all of a species information. This parent molecule must divide in the same way that the cells do. It's also vital for the DNA to make a copy of itself first in order for the cellular DNA to be divided evenly between two daughter cells.

Step 2

A replicon is a DNA or RNA molecule (or a segment of DNA or RNA) that replicates from a single replication origin. Each genome or fragment of a genome is copied independently of the others in a self-regulatory process. A replicon is one of these replication units.
