What is the reaction order and velocity constant and how are they determined from experimental data

Expert Solution
Step 1

Order of a reaction :  in a  chemical reaction with the concentrations of the reacting substances : the sum of all the exponents of the terms expressing concentrations of the molecules or atoms determining the rate of the reaction.

for example : 2A + B 3C

order = k[A]2[B]1

          = 2+1

          = 3

determination of order from the experimental data:

  • the most common way to determine the order of a reaction by initial rate method.

in this method, the initial rate is measured by running a reaction several times with different initial reactant concentrations to determine the effect of the concentration on the rate.
