Niels Bohr described the structure of the hydrogen atom as a densely packed nucleus of protons and neutrons with a positive charge and the electron revolving around the nucleus in specific quantized orbitals by the help of electrostatic forces. Bohr further suggested that the electron cannot be at any random orbital, instead can only occupy specific orbitals with discrete energy levels. Hence when the electron absorbs and then releases a photon, it can only jump from allowed orbital to another. This results in the emission of discrete wavelengths of light.
