What is a chemical reaction?

Expert Solution
Summary Introduction

To review:

The concept of a chemical reaction.

Introduction:

The electrons that are generally present in the outermost shell in an atom are referred to as valence electrons and the shell is called valence shell. These electrons determine the chemical activity of an atom or element. The valence shell is different for different elements and depends on the number of electrons present in the atom. An atom with a complete valence shell is chemically stable.

Explanation of Solution

Atoms combine together to form chemical bonds in order to complete their valence shells. These may be by transferring the electrons or by sharing them. The atoms or molecules combine together to form new molecules by simultaneous breaking and formation of bonds. The old bonds are broken, in order to aid in the formation of new bonds...
