Draw structures of phenol, urea, and formaldehyde.

Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The structures of phenol, urea and formaldehyde have to be drawn.

Concept introduction:

Carboxylic acid: One OH group is attached to the carbonyl carbon atom of the compound. It is represented as RCOOH

Amide: One NH2, NHR' or NR'2 group is attached to the carbonyl carbon atom of the compound. It is represented as RCONR'2.

Aldehyde: It is an organic compound having CHO as functional group.

Phenol is an aromatic compound and it is also known as phenolic acid. The molecular formula of phenol is C6H5OH. Phenol is a volatile and it is crystalline solid.

Urea is an organic compound. It is an amide containing two NH2 groups. The molecular formula of urea is CH4N2O.

Formaldehyde is naturally occurring organic compound and molecular formula is CH2O.

Explanation of Solution

The molecular formula of phenol is C6H5OH. The structure of phenol as shown below.
