Theme Essay The story To Kill a Mockingbird is by Harper Lee. The story takes place during the Great Depression, in the small southern town of Maycomb, Alabama. An attorney defends a negro man accused of raping a white woman. Throughout the book we learn that many of the characters have been destroyed or have been hurt.
