It's cold, lifeless body lay in front of me in a metal tray as my body hovered over it. The body was stiff; unmoving, as it reeked of formaldehyde. But let's not start there, lets go back a little. It was my fourth year at Michigan Tech's Summer Youth Programs. This year I chose to take Medical Physiology. I wonder when I'm getting my degree, I comically thought to myself with a snicker. Medical Physiology was delightfully fun actually, learning about the different bones in our body and different

The main characters in Sophocles’ drama, Antigone, are Antigone herself, the play’s tragic heroine and Antigone’s uncle and King of Thebes, Creon. Both characters are ruled by powerful motivations and beliefs; however, they differ from one character to the next. Antigone’s motivation is love for her family- she puts it above all else. In fact, she is willing to sacrifice her life to defend that love. Antigone goes to great lengths to bury her deceased brother, who according to an edict issued by
the music they currently enjoy. Recently, I have rediscovered one of these albums, Madvillainy, when putting my old playlist on shuffle. The album consists of Daniel Dumile, the album’s MC (rapper) who goes by many aliases, but most commonly as MF Doom, and Otis Jackson Jr., or Madlib. The underground hip-hop album was released in 2004 and is now considered a classic by many. The album’s 22 tracks consist of skits, instrumentals, and rapping with most tracks around two minutes long. Madvillainy has
personification and analogies from the very beginning of the 18th sonnet where he characterizes the admired one as a summer’s day. His descriptions of “besmeared” tombs and the fiery wars described in the 55th pull the reader in and force a vision of impending doom, only to be brought back out to a more serene feel by the ending lines describing eternal life and love. Things not usually mobile are brought to life by his personification, such as the sun and “his golden complexion” in the ever famous 18th sonnet
As a police commander or administrator, addressing the concerns of the officers in your employ, is one of the most important duties that you have. This is especially true when addressing the issues of job related stress. Studies have shown that many police officers perceive the most stress, which they experience, originates from within the department. The studies have also shown that job related stress is a leading cause of cardiovascular disease in police officers (Vicini, 2013). With these thoughts
This is the four line epigraph present on the first page of The Call of the Wild by Jack London. Before you try to find how this section of “Atavism” by John Myers O’Hara, relates to the theme of The Call of the Wild, you must understand the words used. “Nomadic” means moving around and not staying in one place. O’Hara uses these words in a weird order, because it seems like it should say that your nomadic longings are leaping. The first line of this epigraph says that if you stay in one place
As each day passes, the events that we encounter enters through each and everyone of our minds and becomes an assimilation of experiences. Over a long period of time one's past experiences come to affect how they see newer ones. As each and every experience fills our minds, it creates an expectation or order in which our judgment causes us to assume or create reason for the future to become a certain way. This process can be viewed as perspective, perspective influences your actions, emotions, it
only what $5 gets you? But hey, I’m sure that’s enough to get to school, right? Next we find the temperature gage, where even in park the daring arrow continues to inch it’s way closer and closer to H. Then we glance over to the ominous but impending doom of the dash lights. You know what light that is, but if you don’t look maybe it will go away. A strange box with the word “CHECK” inside. It could be anything from a faulty light, to a blown head gasket, but that’s not important cause you’re not fixing
shoots in “The Jade Peony” perish due to cold weather, and the narrator’s sense of freedom and intellectual activity is epitomized within the moonlight in “The Yellow Wallpaper.” In both short stories, symbolism is used to portray the impending doom on the characters’ physical state. This idea is clearly presented in “The Yellow Wallpaper” by the image of the bed being nailed down to the ground and how that reflects her isolation in the room. In the beginning of the story, the narrator despises
