They found that on average the amount spent on medical care for a no helmet patient was $5.5 billion. For the patients that wore a motorcycle helmet the price dropped to $3.3 billion. They also noted that the chance of survival increase with wearing a helmet then without, with a Glasgow Coma Scale score of 8 or lower and less likely to die from their injuries.
