The 1960’s was a time of change. The world experienced many different transformations and so much violence as many different things were coming to bloom. There was love and war all over the United States of America. As I observe this capsule being brought out of the ground I am amazed to see the little etch on the side of it, “The world as it changed”. I am anxious and taken aback when I begin to remove the contents of what I now realize is a time capsule from many years ago. The 1960’s to be exact
Celebrity Cruises are known for its Celebrity Distinction which is, “Extraordinary destinations. Culinary excellence. Intuitive service. Luxurious accommodations. And stunning design.” I was able to experience their cruises with my mom during the week of August 20 and it lives up to their word. Our cruise visited three ports of calls: San Juan, Puerto Rico; St. Thomas, U.S.V.I.; and St. Maarten, all of which are in the eastern Caribbean. Even though these places are so close to each other, their
Obstacles Were Created to be Faced Many people have different ways to accomplish their goals which depends on their experiences and struggles in life. They can use these experiences and struggles and turn them into wisdom, and they become determined to accomplish these goals no matter what obstacles stand in their way. For example, Ernesto was determined to learn how to be an American, but to never forget that he was truly a Mexican. The “Apollo 13” crew was determined to fix a problem in their
President, Ronald W. Reagan, in his speech, “Explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger Address to the Nation,” Reagan expresses the grief and loss due to the tragedy that has occurred to the Challenger. Regan’s purpose was to acknowledge the terrible explosion of the Challenger, witnessed by majority of the people including children and killed all seven crew members: Michael Smith, Dick, Scobee, Judith Resnik, Ronald McNair, Ellison Onizuka, Gregory Jarvis, and Christa MC Auliffe; although despite
Shuttle Challenger Disaster In March, 1970, President Richard Milhous Nixon “opted for the shuttle-tended space base as a long-range goal but deferred going ahead with the space station pending development of the shuttle vehicle” (NASA,1986). Thus the Space Shuttle, which was considered as merely the transport element of a broad earlier, was reused and became the concentration of NASA's near- term future. Challenger, as NASA’s second orbiter which was put into service after Columbia in Space Shuttle
Question 1: Apollo 13 was a successful failure because they got the astronauts home safely, but never completed their mission. Ken Mattingly was one of the astronauts that was suppose to go on the Apollo 13 mission, but two days before they were suppose to launch Ken’s blood work came back and they thought once he got into space, he would get the measles. The group's commander Jim Lovell had the decision to cut Ken from Apollo 13 mission and have Jack Swigert instead or wait until the next
In the year 1995 America witnessed Michael Jordan’s return to the NBA, gas prices were quite low at the price of $1.09 per gallon, and space shuttle Atlantis docked with the Russian Mir Space station. All of these were highlights of the year of 1995, but with great things along came a great tragedy. April 19, 1995, right outside Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, a truck-bomb explosion stole the lives of 168 innocent people and had left hundreds of more injured. With a great tragedy such as this
Overview. The launch of Columbia STS-107 occurred on January 16th, 2003, for a sixteen day mission. After the launch of Columbia, there were six missions (STS-114 through STS-119) scheduled to fly before the launch of STS-120 scheduled for February 19th, 2004. During the launch of STS-107, a piece of foam insulation broke off of the orbiter and struck the left wing of the shuttle. As a result, when the shuttle renter the atmosphere of Earth the damaged permitted gases from the atmosphere to deteriorate
mission was to transport two teams of scientists (7 astronauts in total) to conduct over 80 experiments in 16 days with 12-hour shift time. Day 1 NASA launched Columbia Space Shuttle after long trouble free preparation on January 16th, 2003, from Kennedy Space Center in Florida (KSC). However, 81.6 seconds later apiece of insulating foam came off from
President Reagan in his grief driven, yet inspiring speech “Explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger Address to the Nation,” he expresses the nation’s collective anguish in the wake of the accident. Reagan’s purpose is to praise the lost astronauts for their service and assure to NASA and the rest of America that, even if these deaths happened, they should continue working towards space explorations for future generations. He adopts a somber yet reflective tone in order to evoke a sense of a silver
