“Although 8,398 Iowans died during World War II, the death of the University of Iowa's only Heisman Trophy winner shook the state like no other wartime tragedy.” Although College Football ranked him as the ninth greatest college football player of all time, Nile Kinnick is perhaps best remembered, as Charles Bullard summed up in The Des Moines Register, for his strength of character and his sacrifice to his country (Lidd).

The beginning of everything that the Japanese citizens of our nation had to endure, was the bombing of an American Naval Base. It was an early sunday morning on December 7, 1941 when the Japanese attacked a naval base in Hawaii known as Pearl Harbor (DeWitt 1). This act of war cause 2,400 American people aboard a naval ship die. After the attack, President Roosevelt and congress declared war on Japan, with America declaring war on Japan , Japanese-Americans suffered immensely. In fear that the Japanese may attack the weakened west coast, President Roosevelt signed an order, known as Executive Order No. 9066, which let the military remove Japanese-Americans or anyone of the Japanese decent ,and have them relocated into internment camps. A document commissioned by the Department of Interior which shed light on the terrible boarding school conditions was the Meriam Report from 1928. This was the first report commissioned to look Native American boarding school conditions since the 1850s (“Native American Issue,” 2006). The report found that there was an alarmingly large number of children that died at Native American boarding schools. The Meriam Report states that infectious diseases were widespread, there was a great deal a malnutrition, overcrowding was an issue, poor sanitary conditions, and students were overworked (“Native American Issue,” 2006). Boarding schools have not kept a good record of the number of students enrolled therefore making it easier for these boarding schools to have overcrowding (Yuan et al., 2014). The Meriam Report suggested that Native American children should not be educated in separate institutions and that boarding schools need to change their point of view that the Native American culture is evil (“Native American Issue,” 2006).

Razack begins with an explanation of the night that Ms. George was murdered. Pamela George was an Aboriginal woman and a mother of two, who occasionally prostituted herself for money. She was on the street the night she died. Two young, white, middle-class men named Steven Jummerfield and Alex Ternowetsky murdered Ms. George. These two men picked her up, drove to an isolated area, and after oral sex, each took a turn brutally beating her. They then left her for dead, “with her face in the mud” (125). The men went for something to eat following this, and eventually the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) exhausted their investigation and arrested the two. As Razack describes,“[t]he arrest of two young middle-class white men for the murder of
I personally believe that Habermas is trying something quite idealistic: conciliate the principles of liberal democracy, such as the state neutrality regarding beliefs and deliberation using arguments accessible, understandable and acceptable by all the citizens, with religious principles, not only considering them legitimate but at the same time indispensable for a democratic coexistence. I do not disagree with a pre-disposition to listen to each other and be open to see the potential truth-content, translatable to values of public reason, such as solidarity or the respect to certain human rights. When Habermas indicates that if the State obliged the believers to argue “like if God did not exist” it would involve a huge renounce for them and inexistent
