Every day, law enforcement officers encounter danger while carrying out their duties. The foremost duty of law enforcement officers are to serve and protect citizens. Most law enforcement agencies do this successfully. However, many people view law enforcement officers as the enemy. People need to be better informed about law enforcement and why officers take specific actions in certain circumstances. In our society, police are in a very dangerous position when it comes to the amount of force they can use when dealing with an individual. Officers use discretion when deciding the best course of action for the situation, whether it be physical force, persuasion, or coercion. They must take the correct course of action, because if they are too lenient or to forceful, even when dealing with petty things, they can be reprimanded by superiors and the public. Should police use force? Which circumstances warrant use force and what are the limits of force they can use? These questions are often asked when police are compelled to use force.
When my class had those career classes there was always somebody from law enforcement talking there. I do still remember what one Sheriff talked about Sheriff's job and I kind of liked it right away. I went home and did some research on Sheriff's Department and I liked what I saw. Now, years have passed and I still do have passion for this job, to serve the country. I have been living in the City since my birth, never been in country-side actually and now I feel this is the oppurtunity to widen my knowledge about Red County. I am ready to learn to remember every corner by its name. I have always loved bodybuilding and training my body overall and I know if hired by San Andreas Sheriff's Department I can continue doing something I love, training.

The Memphis Police Departments mission statement that encompasses maintaining public safety through prevention, crime reduction, enforcing the law and apprehending criminals has been in place for the past years. The vision of the department has been to develop and sustain this safe environment through the intolerance of crime and continuous compassion to respond to the needs, rights as well expectations of all citizens, employees, and visitors (Memphis Police Department., 2009). It has often been the belief that the introduction of policing disparities as it pertains to the values and goals of a department originate with the Mayors and city managers. The multiple objectives of what the police executives deem as essential values and the perspectives
The Los Angeles County Sheriff 's Department is tasked with providing health care services to all incarcerated prisoners within a jail system which at present exceeds 18,500 inmates. Correctional Treatment Center (CTC) provides care and treatment for inmates requiring inpatient medical and or psychiatric care in this 196-bed rated medical unit located in the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles. The inmate population is in poor health, largely due to the lifestyle choices of the inmates which often include substance abuse, violence, and living on the streets of Los Angeles. They require the same basic medical care that all residents of Los Angeles County require, including routine illness to advanced medical issues such as tuberculosis (TB), AIDS/HIV+, heart disease, diabetes, dialysis, paraplegics, and acute mental health problems. Additionally, problems associated with aging are becoming common as the jail population increasingly includes older inmates. In the wake of chronic overcrowding in the county lockups, the Sheriff 's Department has been struggling to provide adequate care for thousands of inmates, many of whom have never been treated, with illnesses ranging from tuberculosis to AIDS to schizophrenia. Reported rates of tuberculosis in jails and prisons are more than six times higher than those for the general population. Jails and prisons concentrate individuals at high risk for TB or noncompliance with therapy, including those who are
On December 18, 2014, President Barack Obama signed an Executive Order establishing the President 's Task Force on 21st Century Policing. The Task Force Members sought expertise from stakeholders and input from the public through Listening Sessions, teleconferences and written comments as they worked to identify best practices and make recommendations to the President. The Task Force submitted an initial report to the President on March 2, 2015 and released the final report on May 18, 2015 ("Final report of the resident’s task force on 21st century policing," 2015).
Police brutality in the U.S. has been a phenomenon that has caught international attention in the last few years. As defined in thelawdictionary.org, police brutality is “the use of excessive and/or unnecessary force by police when dealing with civilians.” In many cases, civilians that were law-abiding and even unarmed were victims of police using unjustifiable force upon them. While independent organizations and activists have tried to eradicate this unacceptable behavior and phenomenon through protests and demonstrations, their efforts have not been enough. If law enforcement agencies, such as local police departments, educate their employees on the right and wrong ways to behave on the streets with civilians, the root cause of the problem will be addressed.

I spent my third and fourth session of my practicum with Constable Dwayne Harrison and Constable Paul Davis. Both members of the Lethbridge Regional Police Service (LRPS) are in the patrol unit; responding to calls and investigating. Patrol work is broad, responding to calls that mostly consist of theft, mischief, and domestic. It defines the police as a public service and making the public happy to have someone to solve their problems.
All my life I have been fascinated with police work and firefighting. As a result, I have spent a vast amount of time volunteering at local fire departments working closely with local law enforcement personnel in emergency situations. Although I have wavered for years about whether to pursue a career in law enforcement or firefighting, I have always known that one way or the other I am going to be involved in emergency services. While local police enforcement is interesting, I have always wondered what it would be like to be a State Police Trooper. With that in mind, I secured an interview with Delaware State Police Trooper, Master Corporal (CPL/3) Douglas Brietzke.

Technological advances in the modern society have impacted in many ways the police community evolving from the beginning of fingerprinting to the detection of DNA from hair strands. Now officers are wearing camera’s on themselves rather just in the police patrol car for evidence that the vehicle camera may have not caught. Each time these advancements are implemented, police officers have to ensure they complete classes to ensure they are functioning and working the more advance equipment properly (Charles, 2002). They also have different weapons. Some of their weapons could be considered lethal and some are considered less than lethal but again it all is part of new developments and they have to be trained to use them. With all of the new technology advancements and new weapons police are constantly faced with dangers and new challenges (Charles,
