The most noticeable characteristics derived from the scores of the Seven Habits profile is that the candidate is very cognizant of and understanding in the beneficial effects of decisions to all personnel in their workspace. These characteristics are highly desirable traits for the candidate’s current position as a senior-level manger. The results of the Seven Habits profile identified the candidate as “Outstanding” in taking responsibility for their moods and actions rather than blaming others and circumstances. As a leader this characteristic is advantageous because the ability to take responsibility for your own mistakes leads way to overcoming obstacles and boosting team cohesion. The opposite would be a leader who refers to what “…they
This following will outline my personal leadership practices and potential future leadership. To analyze my leadership qualities I will use the Seven Habits Profile and a leadership theory to determine my strengths, weaknesses, and areas of opportunity for improvement. In conclusion, I will determine the best recommendations for long-term improvement as well as SMART goals, or short-term courses of action, for leadership improvement.
I have always thought of myself as a strong, motivated leader, and based on the results of my seven habits profile I can confirm that there will always be room to grow. There are areas of the seven habits profile in which I thought I excelled, but in reality those are the areas that I need to develop the most. I have always seemed to complete whatever task I may have had in mind, and was always successful in the path that I had taken to get there. When I take time to reflect on the results of my seven habits profile, I notice that I don’t tend to begin with the end in mind. I usually jump in headfirst and worry about the end when I get close to the finish. I feel like I am able to accomplish the most when I am working in total crisis mode, and fail to utilize any time to plan my week with a clear idea of what I desire to accomplish. Failing to have a plan seems to cause me to overthink things, and I stress on minor details that could have been avoided with even the simplest of plans. Even though I am able to complete the tasks in which I need to accomplish, I am more thankful that I have finished and to exhausted to feel accomplished. As a leader, I tent to neglect the feelings of others around me, and instead focus on what it is I think is best for the organization in which I am leading. It is hard for me to sympathize as a leader with those who allow their emotions to cloud their judgment. Everyone has
My first reaction to the Seven Habits Profile results was speechless. When I start to think what it takes to become an effective leader versus manager I start by evaluating the traits, skills, emotion intelligence and among other attributes of the personality. The next process of my thinking is self-evaluating myself to see if I possess those elements. The video was an eye opening revelation considering what I consider an effective leader aligns with The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. The seven habits of the video are with the first step respectively: 1) be proactive, 2) begin with the end in mind, 3) put first things first, 4) think win-win, 5) seek first to understand, then to be understood, 6) synergize, and 7) sharpen the saw (Covey, 1990). By evaluating my chosen leadership theory: trait, along with the seven habits I gained a better scope of an effective leader. The overall results demonstrated that I was aligned with the Seven Habits principles ranging from very good to outstanding.
In Category 2 of the Seven Habits Profile which tests “Life Balance,” I rated on the high end of “good.” I will always put myself in the middle when it comes to balancing the people in my life and the feelings of others because there is always work to be done. This is what makes me a self-aware person, though, because I am conscious of the fact that no matter what I do, there is always room for improvement (Lanz, 2013). I use this skill in leadership by helping followers be mindful of their life balance.
The seven habits of highly effective people are concepts that one put into place. Steven Covey, a man who came up with using seven positive principles where one can have a guide and a chance to examine and utilize these principles to meet personal goals and be an example for other people as well.
The Seven Habits Analysis consists of nine categories, two of those categories make up what is considered the foundation habits from which the other seven habits are built upon. Twelve was my lowest scoring in the category of life balance, to which I expected. I have been in the business of Medical Staff functions for the last ten years, due to the demands of the job, I have struggled for the last nine years in finding an appropriate work/life balance. My position is deadline heavy. There is no room for extensions on most tasks so it is important that my time management skills be impeccable. I have had to rely heavily on the project management team to ensure that I and my team meet the monthly deadlines we are faced with; in addition to managing
For this task, I completed Seven Habits Profile. Stephen Covey first published the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People in 1989. The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People is by now one of the best-selling books of all time. (Smith, Hadjian) The profile measures across nine categories. The scores ranged from one, very poor, to eighteen, outstanding. The Seven Habits Profile is an excellent tool to help understand where you can improve your leadership skills.
Considering the previous habits I have examined, all the reflections I have on recent events are related to the seven habits and my continued personal and professional development. This proves the textbook is very helpful and useful, because it covers every aspects of my life. However, the most important habit I would consider as Habit Four: think win/win. Because win/win is the fundamental of a long term success between two parties.
My life has begun to shift since the beginning of the MOD. I have come to realization that everyone has problems but it's your mentality, faith, and determination that gets you through them. With that being said, all I want is positivity in my future and I know that in order to do that changes had to be made. With the help of this course and covey's 7 habits I'm able to look at my life from a different perspective.
The results of my Seven Habits® (Covey 2015) self-scoring profile confirmed areas of strengths and weaknesses within my leadership style. The two foundational habits of Emotional Bank Account (Category 1) and Life Balance (Category 2) both had scores of 12 out of 18. These two categories assess personal values and strengths, such as integrity, work ethic, thoughtfulness, and life-work balance. My strengths in these areas provide a firm foundation to build leadership skills upon. There is one foundational area in which I scored a 3 out of 6. This area for improvement involves speaking disapprovingly of others when they are not present, which often creates division and does not resolve issues. Improvement in this area will create cohesion
What are the seven habits meant for? The seven habits are meant to inspire people into bettering their everyday lives in society. Also, the seven habits are meant to create routine. By creating routine, you or the person that is following these steps can plan out their next move (e.g. When playing chess, each chess player will plan ahead on which move they will make and will try to anticipate the other players moves). We each have points in life that we need to improve on, yet, many don’t hold themselves to those ‘promises’ that they make to themselves to change their ways.
If you do not read "7 Habits" for the moment, it may not be time to read it now.
Stephen R. Covey’s self-help book is an influential communication for personal change. He advises building from the inside-out and offers a plan for moving from dependence to independence and then to interdependence. The inside-out approach starts first with one self, which includes paradigms, characters, and motivations. To improve relationships with others, we have to first improve ourselves by putting character ahead of personality.
Pablo Neruda, a Chilean Poet mention: “Where does the rainbow end, in your soul or on the horizon?” Whenever I read this quote I think optimism; if you’re optimistic many doors will open. Well you may be tasking yourself what does being optimistic has to do with your health? A study made in 1990’s, in Finland, with two groups of 1,250 healthy man (one group was pessimistic and the other group was optimistic), in a time frame of ten years; reveal that the group who were pessimistic, two thirds of them die, and the rest of the group had suffer from cancer or heart attacks. I don’t have the best health in the world, but by being pessimistic I am only going to make things worse for me that could led to a premature death. So my first healthy
