I consider that through furthering my education at Tarleton State University I will be reaching my primary goal of becoming an athletic trainer at the secondary education level, what is more, I will also gain an extensive understanding of the field as a whole. This graduate program will allow me to reach my true potential academically as well as professionally. It will enhance my critical thinking skills in the classroom setting while working as a team and independently as an individual; likewise it will challenge me as I enter into the clinical environment and begin to work directly with the athletes. Tarleton State will equip me with the knowledge I need to succeed in all areas of my career.

The profession that I am interested in is an Athletic Trainer. I have chosen this career because it is something that I have recently become passionate about within the last two years. I have never been the kind of person to struggle with weight, however after having my 3rd and last child, weight has become an issue. I mention my personal struggle to give insight on why I have chosen an Athletic Trainer. This profession’s main goal is physical fitness. As a trainer you become responsible for another person’s physical active lifestyle. Assisting clients from injury to recovery, evaluating their bodies and advising the individual what is best. Athletic Trainers has many responsibilities. AT’s are professionals in the health care world who mainly caters to athletes. An AT however isn’t limited to just athletes. They work with just about anyone. Ages ranging from a child to an adult. Different skill and jobs, people such as soldiers, high school athletes, and professional athletes.

Being an athletic trainer in various sports for over five years, Pete has a great deal of insight and suggestions for someone who is interested in the field. As I am now considering a supplementary degree in athletic training, Pete has been exceptionally helpful in guiding me through that world. As many of my courses in Kinesiology also apply to an Athletic Training degree, he proposes that I get another bachelor’s degree, as it would take only a short period of time. The career of being an Athletic Trainer has many attractive features. They work both indoors and outdoors, work with a group or as part of a team, and they care for the athletes. Athletic trainers work inside when they are working in a gym or in a training facility. They also work outdoors when they work at athletic fields, at sporting events, or practices. Trainers either work with a group of individuals, as part of a sports team, or both. Athletic trainers care for the athletes they work with. They apply first aid when it is needed, help them with workouts, and coach them (“Working Conditions” 1). Features like these are exactly what I am looking for in a career. I like the idea of not working indoors all the time, I want to be outside.

My clinical rotation for the fall semester of my junior year is with the King’s College Men’s soccer team. As an athletic training student, I hold a lot of responsibilities regarding the prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, management, and treatment of these student athletes. Most of my daily activities can be separated into three groups, the pre-practice, pre-game, during the activity, and post- practice and post-game.

Americans love their sports. People are constantly watching games like football, basketball, baseball, soccer, and volleyball live and on TV. There are many factors that go on during sports that keep them going. We all know about the coaches, players, fans, referees, and team owners, but on of the most important part is sometimes forgotten. That part happens to be athletic trainers. Athletic trainers make sure the athletes stay in good health and make sure that athletes recover from injuries so that they can return to the game. Athletic trainers also help prevent injuries from happening. Being an athletic trainer is a career path that involves many years of education and practice. Athletic trainers seem to go unnoticed at many sporting events, but in fact, have to go through tons of education and training and are a major part in health in sports.

Most people tend to overlook how qualified an athletic trainer is along with all of the job settings in which an athletic trainer can work in. Unlike doctors, athletic trainers are with the patient from the start of the injury, through rehab, and whenever they go back into the sport. This semester project helped my overall understanding of the administration process that accompanies the career in athletic training. It showed me how to apply what I learned from the textbook and weekly assignments to a situation that frequently occurs for athletic trainers. Working with other student athletic training students allowed us to share our ideas and perceptions to meet the goal of running a new and successful athletic training room.

Everyone has dreams and goals, some people may stick to them and some may not. But I will make sure that I will stick to my goal and that goal is to be a physical sports trainer. Ever since I got hurt and tore my ACL I everything was over, but the trainers gave me confidents again and I wanted to play football again, and that's why I want to become a trainer because they didn't give up on me.

Because I grew up playing on various sports teams, I loved the comradery and atmosphere of a team. I thought I could translate the passion that I had for sports into a career as team physical therapist. Next comes the question of why a physical therapist. Personally, during my time playing sports, I have been lucky enough to avoid serious injuries, which needed rehabilitation through physical therapy. However, I have friends who have gone through physical therapy and have shared their experiences with me. They say they arrive to the physical therapy session with a frown on their face because they are discouraged and sad they cannot play the sport they love, but when they leave, they walk out the door with a giant smile on their face. One reason is because they see themselves getting healthier and stronger. The second reason is due to the fact that their physical therapist is able to sympathize with them and help them view their injury in a more positive way. Sometimes, a patient even comes out of physical therapy stronger than they were before. For these reasons, the occupation of a physical therapist attracted me. I would have the best of both worlds. I think it is great that there are careers that you can pursue that you have a lot of interest in. You have to pick a job that you will be happy in. I think that physical education teachers make a difference in kids lives and the teacher makes an impression on them as far as fitness. Some values that I care about are accomplishment, fitness, and love for what you do life. All of my values can tie into my career choice which is physical education. Physical education is all about fitness and motivating kids to be physically active and do their best. You need to have a passion for your job and what you do so you can be fulfilled at your job.
