At the beginning of the semester my diet and health were completely off track. I have learned and used information from this class and discussions with my peers to help motivate myself to make considerable changes to my diet and my way of life. I cannot say that I have made a full change from where I started, but it is what I would call a great start. I found out that I was at risk for diabetes when I took a quiz, and it also runs in my family. My mom, grandfather and grandmother, along with many aunts and uncles all have diabetes. I understand that does not mean that I will get it, but since it does run in my family, unless I change my ways, I have a better chance of getting it. I see how other family member of mine struggle and what they must go through daily and that is not what I want for my life. I also understand that vitamins are a good idea for continued good health, so I started to take a multi vitamin and when I am feeling bad I take a boost like emergen-c. I really did not have any interest in taking them until I saw the effect that it made on some of my peers. When creating a diet, I could not cancel out all the fatty foods that I eat, I can’t help what I like. I have tried adding more vegetables and fruits into my diet. I work a lot of late hours, so it makes it hard for me to always eat as good as I would like to. It helps a lot that my child likes to eat healthy food and my mom cooks meals for us, and they are usually pretty healthy. I am
I am seeking a dietetic internship at California State University Fresno, to continue my journey in dietetics. At first, obtaining a college education meant more than just assuring a better future but breaking the chain in a long line of poverty and illiteracy. As my mother was a single parent and immigrant to the United States with less than a first grade education, her desire to have a better life for me has always been present. Being a first generation Mexican-American and the first in my family to graduate college, I consider myself privileged to have the opportunities my parents never had. Although, I did not know it at the time, my journey in dietetics started after high school. I was fortunate at such a young age to work in a convalescent home as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA). While caring for the residents, I discovered an innate need to care for others. I gained as much from them as they did from me. As a CNA, I
Over the past four days, I have examined every aspect of my diet ranging from the amount of calories to the amount of fats I take in. As a type one diabetic, I have always been conscious of the amount of carbs I take in as I have to maintain my blood glucose levels within a certain range. However, after closely monitoring my food consumption for the past four days, I am able to see the strengths and weaknesses of my diet. One disclaimer I would like to point out to the readers of this report in advance are that my diet and exercise regimen have been severely cut back to a lot for the fractured vertebrae.
Change is good, this is something that has often been said throughout history, the mind is an open book ready to consume additional information. During the last eight weeks of class there has been many things that Foundation of Nutrition, SPHE 395, has highlighted for the students, in order to assist them in fine tuning their craft in the sports and health industry. There where numerous area that where focused on over the last eight weeks. During part two of this final assignment there we were asked to state five things that we learned during the eight weeks of learning. One of things that I must say is the fact that I know little or nothing about Nutrion before this class, but during the course there were several that would help me during my career. The five area that where important to my learning where the highlighting of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, maternal nutrition for infants, and the benefits of alcohol. After the review of this information there will be detailed concluding thoughts what I think of the class after the concluding week.
My mom is always fixing to go boxes for the children and I. She always packs two boxes. One for me and one for the kids to share. I always feel like I have to eat the whole box in one sitting. I only go to the movies once a month, but when I go I get nachos, Chicken fingers, fries and cheese sticks. At home I would eat each of those as a separate meal on separate days. When I am sick I do not eat anything because I am worried about throwing everything up, so for two days after I feel better i just eat and eat. When ever I happen to have extra money after the kids are taken care of and the bills are paid, I go to the grocery store and buy chips, cookies, cakes and anything else that is considered junk food and the kids and i eat and watch Netflix. All of this I considered normal. I watched a few of the videos on YouTube about mindless eating with Dr. Brian Wansink, and I believe this man is a genius. I am sure there are other many great books on this topic as well as weight loss. I believe that this a novel approach. Without reading the book I can tell he is not trying to tell people how to diet. He explains the issues of over eating and why we do it. Then he explains how to control it. We have to do better. Foreign countries have better structure with their eating patterns. They are smaller and more in shape because of their enviroment.(Wansink, B. (2011)
Throughout the semester I have faced many difficult and different challenges. One major challenge has been to be acting as a single parent again. Recently my husband left for another deployment which has left me alone to care for our children. It has become my sole responsibility to take care of our children and transport them to and from daycare. I also have to make sure I have childcare lined up if I pick up shifts at work. Another thing that has fallen on my shoulders is the responsibility of all of the housework. Instead of having my husband's help with cleaning and putting laundry away, I now have to rely on myself, which I hate. Another challenge I have faced this semester is getting back into a good school routine. When I left high school
Most of the time I am out of control on my eating. I eat the food that I think is more benefit to me, but really it is not. Since I can journal analysis as a guideline of helping me which kind of food I can eat, I will use it to keep on tract what, why, when I can eat. I will keep on continue to go to the gym daily.
In order to familiarize myself with my eating habits, I have analyzed my diet for seven days. By listing the ingredients in each food item, I have discovered that most of my meals are not nutritious. To understand my recommended daily nutrient needs, I used Canada’s Food Guide to assess my intake. I also listened to “Stuffed” Part One and Two, to help me identify some common dietary issues for Americans. The podcasts shed light on the causes of obesity. From this assignment, I have learned that it is essential to closely monitor what and in which amounts I eat in order to maintain my health.
Search the fridge, see what’s in your freezer and go through your pantry. As you are doing this take out items like meat that has to be cooked, vegetables, fruit, canned foods like corn and beans as well as things that add flavor to food like herbs and spices. People get so wrapped up in the convenience of fast food and eating out that they forget about the groceries they purchased. Move the healthy whole foods to the front so they are always in sight and easy to access. Also start planning your food. On the weekends do some prep for a week’s worth of meals and get what you need from the store so you have a variety of healthy ingredients to work with. These can be transformed into breakfasts, lunches, dinners and even snacks. In addition to that, save items like leftover chicken or vegetable sautés for a convenient lunch the following day. Small changes like the ones described combined with the advice from a DC Pure Fit trainer will get you in great
I found with my diet I do pretty well with the foods I currently eat. When I go to the grocery store I always go through the produce section last after I have figured out what meals I am going to make for the week. I like to know what I need to buy for the meals I have chosen but also to look at all of the deals they are having. I love fruit and veggies, which is different that a lot of people. I somewhat taught myself to eat healthy after I started gaining weight and was feeling icky. I couldn’t believe how much I enjoyed eating healthy and could not believe how easy it was. Many people think healthy food is expensive, but the way I look at it is, if you want to have a long healthy thriving life, you need to take care of your body and you don’t want to just feed yourself junk food and pack on the pounds and calories.
Many Americans today do not track their calories or pay attention to what they are eating. As they fail to do so, they also fail to analyze what nutrients, food groups, and physically activity they receive adequately and which they lack. As I have tracked foods and beverages that I have consumed, I have been able to collect data about which food groups/nutrients I consume adequately, where the majority of my calories come from, and how my physical activity compares to that recommended.
This week on My Diet Is Better Than Yours viewers will be introduced to Jennifer Cassetta and her diet The Strong, Safe, and Sexy Plan. Jennifer is a new trainer this week after Taj Robinson told her trainer Jovanka Ciares that it was time to go home and she wanted a new trainer. People got the chance to speak with Jennifer Cassetta about her diet and what viewers can expect from her. Cassetta is a third degree black belt in hapkido, a form of martial arts that focuses on self-defense, and they are going to be doing this as part of their workout on the show.
Healthy eating is easy in theory but is rather difficult to execute. My husband and I have two boys. They are eight and sixteen. I work as a nurse and he works as a mechanic. We are both physically tired after our shifts and often eat out. This is more convenient especially when the boys are constantly on the go
I was unable to function properly, as if I was stuck in a fog, and I kept falling asleep in class. I hated myself for it, but it was almost compulsive, and something I had extreme difficulty stopping. Additionally, I decided to make my lifestyle more healthy by reducing intake of unhealthy junk food and snacks. Just like the lack of sleep, they felt appealing in the moment, but were almost immediately regretted. Not only were these unhealthy practices impacting my physical health, but it had significant negative impacts on my self confidence and happiness. I kiled to think of it as a sort of death spiral, where I procrastinated to keep my mind off the stress, which in turn only lead to more stress and procrastination. This assignment provided an excuse to try and get my life back in order, and through these changes I decided my hardest
When I started my college journey I wasn’t sure how, but I knew I wanted to help people. After completing a nutrition course and I was amazed by the impact that nutrition has on the human body. It was then when I decided to pursue a career in Dietetics, I wanted mycareer to be applicable to my personal life. because I wanted to study something that would be applicable to my daily life. My family has struggled with Hypertension and Diabetes for a number of years, which also motivates me to learn about disease prevention through nutrition. I am passionate about nutrition and helping others achieve a healthy lifestyle and wellbeing through a healthy well balanced diet. I enjoy being exposed to new things that can expand my knowledge (move to a
