After ringing the doorbell several times, Karen pounded on the door, and screamed, “Wake up, Dan. Wake up, Dan! I need your help.” Ready to go to another neighbor’s house, she heard him say, “Hold on I’m coming!” Opening the front door, Karen saw her neighbor standing in the doorway wearing only his boxer shorts and a tee shirt. He asked, “What’s wrong? Karen, what’s your problem.” Weeping, she said, “Something is wrong with Katherine. Come quick.” “Just a minute,” he said, rushing into the house and returned fastening his pants. “Where is she?” Motioning for him to follow her, Karen ran across the lawn. Stopping by the fence, she pointed toward the side of the house, and said, “She’s over there.” Rushing over to check on Katherine, Dan called out, “Have you called 911?” “No, but I will,” Karen said, hurrying into her house and returned shortly, “I called them. They’re on their way.” “We should wait out front,” Dan said, motioning for her to follow him. Stuttering, Karen asked, “Is she, I mean is Katherine still alive?” “There’s blood everywhere. I’m sure she isn’t.” Dan stayed with Karen and listened as she described what happened as they waited for help to arrive. “Bouncer woke me up about 6:00 o’clock. We came out the front door and saw a man come through the backyard jumped over the fence. I yelled, “What are you doing?”He stopped and looked straight at me. I thought he might attack me.
