• Abyssopelagic Zone - The next layer is called the abyssopelagic zone, also known as the abyssal zone. It extends from 4,000 meters (13,124 feet) to 6,000 meters (19,686 feet). The water temperature is near freezing, and there is no light at all. • Hadalpelagic Zone - Beyond the abyssopelagic zone lies the forbidding hadalpelagic zone. This layer extends from 6,000 meters (19,686 feet) to the bottom of the deepest parts of the ocean. These areas are mostly found in deep water trenches and canyons. The deepest point in the ocean is located in the Mariana Trench off the coast of Japan at 35,797 feet (10,911 meters). The temperature of the water is just above freezing, and the pressure is an incredible eight tons per square inch. That is approximately
9. Oceanward of the oceanic trench, the ocean bottom first rises and then levels off to a depth of approximately 3900 m, making the deepest part of the ocean trench about [(1400)(2400)(3500)] m below the bottom of the abyssal plain ocean bottom west of the trench.
A diver descending to a depth of 10 meters, is equivalent to the entire 150km of atmospheric air (1 ATA). This is due to water being much denser than air. If the diver were to descend another 10 meters, the water will exert a further pressure, equal to another atmosphere, 2 ATA.
I examine how rising or falling tide can affect the water level of Corte Madera Salt Marsh in this report. The data is from Wednesday (June 19th) and Thursday (June 20th). My hypothesis is that tide and water level have positive relationship. From the result, I learn that the water level and tide have positive relationship. However, when tide changes its direction, the water level is likely to stay or little change.
To begin with, if I was currently an advocate for the environment and animals I would first focus on the Orcas, or killer whales, at theme parks, specifically Sea World. First of all, Sea World is inhumane. Five of the Orcas currently at sea world were “whale-napped” from the oceans they called home. For example, Tilikum, one of the most know whales in the Sea World franchise, is now thirty-two years old. He was captured at the age of two by, which means he has been in captivity for thirty years. And, before anyone says Tilikum was injured so they “rescued” him I want to say that it is fact that Tilikum was not injured. He was taken from his family and confined to a tiny tank just so people could make a hefty profit. Also, if the Orcas are
The Puerto Rico Trench is the deepest part of the Atlantic Ocean, with water depths exceeding 8,400 meters which is actually the deepest point in the Atlantic Ocean and the deepest point not in the Pacific Ocean. In the Pacific trenches are located in places where one tectonic plate subducts or slides under another one. However, in the Atlantic trenches such as this one is formed
Off the coasts of southwest Florida about one - hundred feet below the surface a
The depths of the ocean is unknown to Ark, but they believe that since some parts of the ocean glow some underwater canyons go down to mantle or even the outer core. The Ocean makes up forty percent of the planet.
The deepest, Lake Superior, is 1,333 feet (406 meters) deep. Lake Erie, the shallowest, is only 210 feet (64 meters) deep (The New York Times Almanac).
In the Western Pacific Ocean traveling to the Southern end of the Mariana Trench, a crescent shape canyon, lies the deepest part of the ocean called “Challenger Deep” reaching down to approximately 36,070 feet. Also down 20,000 feet to the deepest and darkest place in the Trench can be found the “Hadal Zone” named after the Greek God Hades, associating it to his underworld. As far as we know only about three people have traveled down to this part of the ocean such as Film Director James Cameron in 2012 and two scientist aboard the Trieste in 1960. In 1875, a British survey ship called “HMS Challenger” expedition was the first to actually discover these depths during a global circumnavigation, making the deepest point in the ocean named after
The deepest part of the Atlantic Ocean is the Puerto Rico Trench, which is between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The middle of the Atlantic Ocean is the Mid-Atlantic ridge, which is not the deepest part of the ocean, therefore makes the statement of my friend incorrect. Ocean floor can be divided into three different parts, which includes the continental margins, deep-ocean basins, and the mid-ocean ridge. Continental margins are usually found in the shallow areas that are closer to the continents, and with the Atlantic Ocean, it is at the East Coast of the US. Deep-ocean basins are the deep water areas and are further away from the continents, and it is found between the continental margin in the East Coast and the Mid-Atlantic
At about 1,600 feet oxygen levels run low. Life still goes on with gills that are more efficient or by minimizing movement. Some animals that live here are swordfish, squid, wolf eels, and some species of cuttlefish. Many organisms that live in this zone are bioluminescent. This zone extends from 650 feet to about 3,300 feet. Some animals living in this zone will rise to the epipelagic zone at night to feed.
The film The Sea Inside shares the heart warming real life story of a man named Ramon Sampedro. At the young age of twenty-six he suffered an accident while diving into shallow waters of the ocean that left him a quadriplegic. Now at the age of fifty-four, Ramon must depend on his family to survive. His older brother Jose, Jose’s wife, Manuela and their son Javi do their best to take care of Ramon and make him feel loved. Although Ramon is extremely grateful to his family and friends for their help all these years, he has come to see his life as aggravating and unsatisfying. He wishes to die with the little dignity he has left in his life. However, Ramon’s family is dead set against the thought of assisted suicide and the
This widespread system of currents starts its cycle all the way up in the North Atlantic near the North Pole. In the beginning of its cycle the water begins on the surface of the ocean and is low in temperature due to the freezing conditions in the Northern
When referring to Arizona’s water Kris Mayes, chairwoman of the state’s utility regulatory panel once said, “How do you say just how valuable water is in an arid state like Arizona?” she said. “It’s like the credit-card commercial-it’s priceless” (McKinnon). She was right, because in a dry state like Arizona, water is pretty important. To say water is ‘pretty important’ for the world is an understatement. We use water to function. And when we think of water we think of saving it. Keep the faucets from dripping or turn off the water while brushing your teeth. There are numerous tips for water conservation, but people don’t often think of the damage that is already done. Damages like ‘dead zones’. Dead zones in the ocean have been around for
If you have ever lived in proximity to coastal areas you may have seen coastline erosion first hand. The beaches you frequent during the summer may seem to be getting smaller and smaller every year. Why does your favorite beach seem to be disappearing? Coastal erosion is to blame. The waves, wind, tides and currents all play a part in the mechanism that is coastal erosion. When water and wind batter the shoreline sediments are carried out to sea and deposited on the sea floor or at other points along the coastline. This is called an erosional coastline. This erosion may be very apparent or seem to have happened overnight when it happens due to a large storm or extremely high tide.
