Over Diagnosis of ADHD Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, also known as ADHD, has become a well-known disorder that our ears hear lightly and many don’t think twice about. Although, ADHD is presented in over 11,000,000 people that are living in the United States (Frank, 2017). ADHD is prevalent in both women and men of all various ages. Once one has this disorder, it stays with them forever. However, many therapists as well as psychologist believe that this disorder is over diagnosed and leads into false and inaccurate prescriptions. After talking with a therapist, you can go to your doctor and get a prescription of Adderall. Adderall today can cause many problems in education, as well as in the work force. Adderall is mixture of two major stimulant drugs. It was approved in 1960, when it has been prescribed by a doctor or a therapist. The drug is used to calm the central nervous system and increase the brains chemical dopamine level, which then begins to stimulate the brain (Adderall XR, 2014). By students taking Adderall when they are not prescribed, it can lead to intense concentration and focus. Students can take Adderall during major days of focus, such as major tests or little time with lot to do. Although Adderall is no issue for kids who has been prescribed it, for an unprescribed person to take it is considered breaking the law, as well as cheating. One child having an advantage among the rest of the class falls among breaking the rules which can go under cheating. Many people say that boys have higher chances of getting diagnosed with ADHD. This is because their symptoms become more relevant and they are more obvious. “Experts estimate that 5% is a realistic upper limit of children with the disorder, but in many areas of the country, as Watson found in Virginia, up to 33% of white boys are diagnosed with ADHD.
