Tourism is an important economic sector and an interdependent phenomenon that establishes its development directly on the territory and the use of its natural resources. The different phases of consumption of a “tourism product” are related to the environment, from the stay cycle to the displacement.

Tourism should not be understood as an isolated and independently functioning economic activity. On the contrary, tourism depends on numerous sectors of the economy that supply it with goods and services (food, transport, insurance, energy, technology, construction, furniture, etc.).

New tourists are looking for spaces with less impact on the environment and with a greater integration of local social and cultural characteristics. The receiving spaces seek alternative development paths that allow the reduction of the negative effects of tourism on the environment, that ensure a wider diversity of tourist forms and, above all, that integrate in a more harmonious way the needs of the tourist and the local population.
