Bacteria and fungi can be both beneficial and detrimental to agriculture.
First of all i am going to look at bacteria:
“Bacteria are the oldest living organismson eath. their cells are prokaryotic-they have no true nucleus, mitochondria or chloroplasts, all of which are features of the more evolved eukaryotic cells. Bacteria are found in every possible habitat-soil, air ,freshwater, sea water, om our skin and in ourlarge intestines. Some can withstand extreme conditions, eg temperature of 80 degrees celcius. In hot springs, or extreme cold and high pressures on the seabed. (Cullen, 2011, pg70)

Advantages of bacteria in agrculture:

· Used in the production of antibiotics to treat many farm dieases and illnesses eg: penicillin
· Rhizobium bacteria in clover helps with nitrogen fixation

Mastitis:”This is a bacterial disease of the udder. Infection occurs via the teat canal and is the result of bad hugiene. It exists in two forms, sub clinical (which is dectable only by bacterial examination of the milk) and clinical (i.e displaying more obvious symptoms). Infection is due to a variety of bacteria, possibly up to 20, including Streptococcus, Staphyloccus, Escherischia and pseudomonas.

Symptoms: Sub-clinical mastitis is diagnosed by bacterialcontamination of milk and reduced milk yield (up to 10% reduction). Symptoms of clinical mastitis include swelling and pain in the udder, clots in the milk and general ill-health.” (Breen & Mullen, 1992,
