In today’s society, we are surrounded by sites such as Facebook, Twitter, E-Mail, and various other websites that can often times consume our lives. Nowadays, people already live in a digital age, and they rely on the technology to give them information and make connection with others. When the social media comes first, people’s curiosity triggers them to explore the cyber space. However, when the constant stream of content comes to people, they will question whether the information benefits to them. Social media is a computer technology that facilitates the creation and sharing of information, ideas, career interests and other forms of expression via communities and networks. The variety of social media services that are currently available can help benefit businesses, introduce an event, or even help you find a friend, family member, or long lost soulmate. Some social sites even help you find love. However, there are many positive things that can come out social media but there are many negatives too.
Despite the positives, there are many negatives associated with social media. Using social media can make a person more vulnerable to predators and cyber bullying. In this age, “Cyber bulling is quite common, can occur to any young person online, and can cause profound psychosocial outcomes including depression, anxiety, severe isolation, and tragically suicide” (“American Academy of Pediatrics”). Cyber bullying impacts society in a negative way because it is harming young teenagers’ minds. Bullies, torment, threat, harass, and even embarrass their victims by using different forms of social media. Using social media can also decrease privacy for an individual. People often give out their personal information not knowing who can see it. To average internet users, “A false sense of security may leave social networking site users vulnerable to security attacks such as hacking, leaking sensitive information, and sending viruses” (“ProCon”). Furthermore, Social media can also lead to brain disorders and can cause people to have a hard time interacting with people face to face. “Social networking entices people to spend more time online and less time talking to a person face to face.” (“ProCon”)

This problem has especially been targeted towards celebrities who have a large amount of followers online. Adding onto that, more and more people are started to follow the trends that they see online. Studies have shown that people who use social media apps immediately compare their lives to the things they see online. This can be a problem with small children, many TV channels and social media apps are highly inappropriate for children which can cause injuries if not supervised by parents. Media can also lead to individualism. People spend too much time on the internet and watching television. As a result, socialization with friends, family and neighbors is affected. This can also effect a person health, eye sight can be severely damaged from staring at a computer or TV screen for long periods of time. Hearing can also be damaged if devises which include headphones are used for long

In reality, I didn’t think much of the account at all, but just a means to show myself to everyone whom I was friends with, which I have barely talked to before and during that time, what I was doing. I didn’t realize how much I was showing the world who I am, who are my family members, where I live and almost everything else.
