The State of Texas embraces a methodical approach when addressing threats against the public, public safety, and following threats faced by Americans; cyber threats, terrorism : crime, manmade and natural disasters, industrial accidents, and public health threats” (DPS, 2016).

In an attempt to acquaint readers with the Indiana Amber Alert System’s technology, this report will review its source, users, funding and relationship with the Emergency Alert System, sometimes called the Emergency Broadcast System. History and criteria of the system will be examined, as well as collaboration, sharing and program funding. Local information will be discussed from the perspective of an area law enforcement officer. Statewide information will be touched upon from the perspective of the director of the Indiana Amber Alert Clearinghouse in Indianapolis.

In 1999, about 27% of the law enforcement agencies who were serving at least 50,000 persons were operating an early warning system while another 12% were planning to establish one in the coming days. Some effective community notification strategies are alerting the public through News, press releases, newsletters, and sometimes door-to- door warnings of the sex offenders in the area serves a good purpose. Now days states are mandated by the Federal government to put the sex offender registry online so that anyone web access can stay notified.

The use of crime bulletins and other type of news divestment is very crucial, especially if a crime has been committed. The sooner the news of a crime or wanted person(s) gets out, the greater the possibilities of bringing the case to a close, or to solving the crime. It is also very important that the police departments communicate with other agencies to share information about specific crimes, modes operandi, or any other important information that may be crucial in developing leads to solve a case or even find missing persons.

The article critique assignment focused on an article written by Mark Fazzini, head of the College of DuPage Police Department in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. His article “The Importance of NIMS to Campus Emergency Response” was printed in a September 2009 FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin and was given to us as a class as the assigned article to critique. Chief Fazzini points out, in his article, the need for authorities to have effective countermeasures in place to address several threats to campus safety, which he refers to as “evil acts”. Having a basic understanding of community or national emergency plans can assist families in disaster. This is especially true during the response phase. The National Response Framework (NRF) is a great example of a national community reference. There are many advantages associated with using information technology in policing. Comparative analysis shows that using information technology (IT) to combat crime has save lot of resources and time in the police department.
