9/11 was one of the most crucial events in U.S. history. Its impact will be felt for years to come. As confusing as the news coverage was that day on September 11, 2001, the truth emerged crystal clear through the replays. All Americans knew the United States would never be the same, the safe place that we call home would be altered forever. It is thought that Al Qaeda’s involvement with world terrorism can be traced back to 1993. After the United Sates embassy bombings in 1998 where over 220 lives were lost, the FBI put Bin Laden at the top of the ten most wanted list, offering a $25 million reward for his capture. In the year 2001 the United States was not engaged in any wars. Nobody knew about Al Qaeda and ISIS did not exist. But after the attacks on the twin towers it was clear what was happening, the U.S. would soon be going to war. On that late summer morning in September 2001, 19 hijackers took control of four commercial airplanes. The hijackers were terrorists who were carrying out attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington D.C. Just after 9:00 am, the Hijackers crashed flight 175 into the 75th-85th floors of the south tower. About an hour later the tower collapsed. The west side of the Pentagon was hit by Flight 77 shortly after the south tower was hit. Approximately one hour after the south tower was attacked, the north tower collapsed as well. The fourth airplane did not reach its intended because
On September 11,2001, disaster struck. Al-Qaeda hijacked 4 different planes. The first plane he hijacked was headed to the north tower of The World Trade Center. The second plane was headed to the south tower of The World Trade Center. The third plane was headed to the Pentagon. The fourth and final plane was headed to the White House.
On September 11, 2001, members of the terrorist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes. At 8:45 in the morning, an American Airlines plane crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center. Hundreds of people were killed instantly, and hundreds more were trapped in the burning building. It was thought to be only a freak accident. Less than twenty minutes later, a United Airlines plane crashed into the south tower. It was no longer an accident, but an attack. Later on that morning the third plane hit the Pentagon, and passengers overtook the last plane and crashed it into a field in Pennsylvania. The combined damage from all four planes resulted in the deaths of over 3,000 people, and injuries to another 10,000. Only six people who were
On September 11, 2001 four passenger commercial jet airliners were hijacked and as a result approximately 3,000 human lives were lost. When asked about 9/11, many can recall exactly what they were doing when they heard the news that a plane crashed into one of the World Trade Center (WTC) buildings and many Americans can tell you how it all unfolded and the reason behind such a travesty. The “official story” provided by officials, and restated by Sofia Shafquat, producer of “9/11 Mysteries: Demolitions” say that “four passenger planes were hijacked and taken radically off course, within an hour, two of the planes had flown into the enormous steel towers of the World Trade Center, creating fires and eventually toppling them” (Shafquat).
9/11 plays a big role in American history. It commemorates a date for those affected by this traumatic event. Many can still remember the day, just as if it was yesterday – what they were doing and where they were. The vast majority of our sophomore class had not even been born, or old enough to recall this event. This date in American history unified us as a country.
While 9/11 was a very important moment in the lives of many Americans, not many realize the direct impact this tragedy has had on their lives, and their country. For one, 9/11 greatly changed America’s involvement in wars. It also completely changed the way airport security works in America. Finally, 9/11 caused the American government to begin collecting significantly more data from its citizens, something which has been quite unpopular with the American populace. No matter how you look at it, 9/11 has left a permanent mark on America.
At 9:12 on Flight 77, staff and passengers contacted their family and friends and air traffic control that the plane had been hijacked. Approximately at 9:36, Secret Service agents evacuate the White House employees to the Presidential Emergency Operations Center. The reason they evacuated the White House is because the authorities were expecting that another hijacked plane was going to attack either the White House or the Capitol (9/11 MEMORIAL - September 11 Attack Timeline, pages 20, 22-23). At 9:37, hijackers crash Flight 77 into the Pentagon’s western facade, killing the fifty-nine on board the plane and one hundred twenty-five military and civilian personnel inside the Pentagon. This had been the third attack on the United States within fifty-one minute. To help the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) find the hijacked planes, they ground all flights over, or bound for, the continental United States. At approximately 9:59, after burning for a total of fifty-nine minutes, the South Tower collapses within ten seconds killing many rescue workers and responders (9/11 MEMORIAL - September 11 Attacks Timeline, pages 24-25,28). Around 10:15, the damaged section of the Pentagon’s outermost offices, known as the E ring, collapses. No on was injured. At 10:28, the North Tower collapses after burning for one hundred two minutes, killing about 1,400 people in the building and the surrounding area (9/11 MEMORIAL - September 11 Attack Timeline,
9.11.01 was a horrifying day for the people of America, as well as many others from across the globe. It has been 14 years since that day and people will still be remembering this day forever. People will never forget 9.11, where two planes that were hijacked by Islamic people sent by Osama Bin Laden and flown into the twin towers, and another plane that had hit the pentagon. I think of this day as the saddest day that America had ever had.
9/11 was one of the most pivotal days in world history. That day made a big impact that was felt for years to come. September 11th constitutes a horrific event in the history of the United States that continues to influence or societal, political and personal decisions. On September 11, 2001, the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City and part of the Pentagon in Washington, D.C was destroyed. The attacks killed nearly 3,000 people at the World Trade Center and almost 200 at Pentagon. 9/11 was one the first hijacking in the United States. There was nineteen terrorist that boarded four commercial jetliners the hijackers were apart of al-Qaeda terrorists, They were carrying a maximum load of 11,400 gallons of jet fuel. Their objective
September 11, 2001 (herein referred to as 9/11) was a day in American history, which will be remembered as the most horrific attack on American soil. This attack, carried out by nineteen Islamic extremists, was associated with al-Qaeda, and involved the hijacking of four airplanes. Two of those airplanes were hijacked and flown directly into the World Trade Center in New York City, New York. The third plane’s target was the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and the fourth plane was brought down in Pennsylvania where it is believed the passengers aboard fought the hijackers. This horrific day in history cost over 3,000 people their lives, and was labeled the worst attack on American soil since the attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II.
9/11 is one of the first memories many of us have. The panic. The terror. How the country recoiled and reformed in response to the terrorist attack that was unwarrented. Everything has changed since that day. Things such as airport security, government, and anti-Islamic violence.
On September 11, 2001 four planes were hijacked by terrorists. After the hijacking, two of the airplanes were crashed into the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center. The third one made impact with the West side of the Pentagon. The last airplane crashed into a field outside of Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Through the
On September 11, 2001, the Islamist terrorist group known as al-Qaeda launched a series of terrorist attacks on the United States of America, specifically in the New York City and Washington D.C areas. Nineteen al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four planes with the intention of using them as suicide attacks that would crash those planes into designated buildings, or targets. Two of the four passenger jets were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, both of which collapsed entirely within two hours of being hit. The third plane was crashed into the Pentagon, and the west side of the building, which is the
On September 11, 2001, four different planes were hijacked by terrorists. Two of them headed for the Twin Towers, the other headed for the Pentagon and the other nobody really knows for sure. The two that were headed for the Twin Towers, sadly made it there and crashed into both of them, they collapsed. The one headed toward the Pentagon also made it there. But the other plane didn’t make it to wherever it was supposed to be going, because of some brave passengers trying to take control of the plane and crashing it into a field, sacrificing their selves to save everyone else. (9/11 Mystery: What Was Flight 93 's Target?)
The War on Terror was a title referring to an international campaign that had started after 9/11. The term “War on Terror” was first used by President George W. Bush on September 20th, 2001. He then called on other states to join the fight against terrorism then stating “Either you are with us, or you are terrorists” There were many governments who had joined his campaign. In October 2001, the U.S. and its numerous different allies that took over Afghanistan, where Al Qaeda was initially based. The Taliban, was protecting Bin Laden which then allowed Al Qaeda to run training camps in the country. Eventually, there were U.S based military who were then able to bring down the terrorist group. Ever since the September 11 attacks, a large amount of terrorists involved with Al-Qaeda were either captured or terminated. On May 1, 2011, U.S. troops killed Bin Laden where he was hiding in Pakistan. The U.S. invaded Iraq in 2003. Then President George W. Bush and other U.S. leaders believed that the country’s dictator, Saddam Hussein, was hiding terrible weapons that could be given to terrorists. Hussein was captured and later put to death by an Iraqi court. No weapons of mass destruction were found (History Channel: War on Terror).
September 11, 2001, millions of New Yorkers and American citizens woke up and started their day, unprepared and unaware for the catastrophic attack that would be taking place in just a few short hours. At 8:46 a.m., Eastern Standard Time, Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower. The impact killed all of the passengers and crew as well as hundreds inside the building. At 9:03 a.m., a second plane, Flight 175, crashed into the corner of the South Tower killing passenger, crew, and workers who worked on floors seventy-five to eighty-three. Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. killing approximately 185 individuals (History.com Staff). Because of the damaged to the support system, fires, and impact at extremely fast speed, the South Tower collapsed at 9:59 a.m. (Lipton and Glanz). Having heard about the acts of terrorism that had just taken place in New York and Washington, D.C., a group of passengers drove their plane, Flight 93, into a Pennsylvania field killing everyone on board but possibly saving hundreds of other lives in the process. The North Tower collapsed at 10:28 a.m. 102 minutes after being struck (History.com Staff). On September 11, 2001, almost twelve hundred people were wounded or killed by “coordinated suicide attempts” by Al Qaeda terrorists. In result to the four airplanes being hijacked and used for premediated reasons, the United States government instituted new regulations for entering the country and airport security as well as expounded on systems already in place.
