Brief history and purpose of TNA or ANA.
The American Nurses Association was established in 1896 when less than twenty nurses attended the first convention. At that time the American Nurses Association was known as the Nurses Associated Alumnae of the United States and Canada, it was renamed in 1911. The purpose of the American Nurses Association is to represent the nation’s register nurse population though its fifty-four constituent member association. . The strategic goal include increasing the number of nurses with ANA, increase recognition of the value of nursing and to position nurses as internal partners in the patients health care journey.

The membership shows that the member is committed to the nursing profession and the future of the nursing practice. It also helps the member to stay informed, educated and involved. The ANA membership can help professional development by providing opportunities for continuing education, access to online CE library, nursing webinars and membership to journals and publications. The membership also can help the nurse gain or maintain ANCC certification. A major barrier for The ANA for obtaining and keeping members is time. Professional association need to consider of the limited amount of time available to a member and find ways to provide professional development opportunities that are not time consuming and effective. Another major barrier for the ANA are the fees and expenses. I would consider becoming a member of the ANA because they can help you gain and maintain an ANCC certification. I want to get my ANCC certification because it certifies that I have exceptional level of competency, skill and knowledge in my field. This certification can enhance my employment opportunities and increase my productivity at work.
2. The ANA advocacy work is another reason why I would consider joining. I think it’s very important for nurses to become involve in politics. We need to take a proactive role in nursing policy. The ANA offers a safe and easy way to become involve in lobbying on important issues to nursing and our practice.
3. Finally, I would consider becoming a member of the ANA because they personal liability insurance. I plan to become a nurse partition and this could be a benefit that I will be interested in the future.
Specialty Organization
1. I would consider becoming a member of the AACN because they offer additional certifications. Even if you are already certified as a CCRN you can consider subspecialty credential like cardiac medicine certification or cardiac surgery certification. For me is very important to become an expert in your field of practice and this certification will help me be more confident in my care and they will enhance my employment
