This article was written by Barbra Kellerman, she has been an advocate and a professor of public leadership. Her academics and skills have been recognized throughout the world. In 2009, she was one of the “Top 50 Business Thinkers” according to Forbes. She was also ranked by Leadership Excellence as one of the Top 15 Best Minds on Leadership in 2008-2009. When Barbra Kellerman talks, people do listen. (Kellerman, B. 2012). In this article, she expresses her concerns how leadership has become easier to resist in recent years, and consequently, followers are ascendant (rising in power) and leaders are in decline. She describes this change as a “seismic shift” and this article shows how the shift occurred, which equates to what the author calls a “crisis in leadership.” (Kellerman, B. 2012).

Yes, this does equate to the decline of leaders as the need for leaders as a generalization is becoming a mute cause. If the followers are becoming leaders, then what is the need for leaders? Leaders are always in need in some respect or aspect of today’s societies. No matter how many followers become leaders, this only equates to a stronger “whole” of competent people that can lead if needed, it just means that the leader pool for selection is larger than ever.
