Individualistic political culture, according to Daniel Elazar, is Texas strongest political culture. Individualism is belief that the government should maintain a stable society while intervening little to none in the lives of the people. For example, in 1995, Texas legislature legalized concealed handguns for license owners which meant that since the Texas people have the right to carry handguns they do not have to rely and right on law enforcement for protection or if crime is happening. The people can take care of themselves.

In my life I have never had any political enforcement or strict religious influence. My parents were very lenient when it came too political preaching. I was taught to be a caring and respectful individual. My political understanding and beliefs have been molded from my early political memories and socialization experiences. As a young adult I have always strived to become knowledgeable about political ideals mainly because I was never really taught to believe in something specific. I eventually was drawn towards many different social and political perspectives, which is how I came to a logical conclusion of how I view the world politically

William F. Buckley JR. wanted to voice his position on conservative politics, and declare that the reason why people fail to complain or voice their opinions is due to the government. Early on in his essay, he communicates anecdotes that illustrate people who are passive in their daily lives. With the rise of technology the majority of Americans have become more less resilient in voicing their opinions, and Buckley connects this passive style of living to political apathy.

Political socialization begins early on in life and is an ongoing process affecting individuals throughout. It is how people eventually identify personal beliefs and expectations in American politics. These political views can include our level of patriotism, faith in the democratic system, standards by which we hold governing bodies, and opinions regarding public policies. The Party is Over by Mike Lofgren goes undercover to reveal what politics is like behind the screen. I believe this book was more for criticizing the GOP and Republicans that the Democrats. The GOP and Republicans are a lot different in politics now than they were decades ago. The book talks about how the Republicans are against the government, how Republicans are anti-science and anti-intellectual, and also how they view religious rights. All of these lead to problems with politics. The Democrats were brought up than the Republicans, but were still mentioned. They too did some damage in today’s politics. This book informs us on how the Republicans went crazy and Democrats became useless, and how it’s become a problem.

The benefits of communism have been debated for centuries. The underlining principle in communism is altruism. Benjamin Cardozo explains why altruism and communism will never be successful in reality. In Cardozo’s essay “The Altruist in Politics”, he explains that socialism will never work due to the fact it relies on altruism; although his argument is a strong one in the sense that he is passionate about his opinion and provides supporting evidence, it is problematic because of the false claims and never fully explaining why people are drawn to socialism if it is deficient.

When people hear the term the personal is political, they do not grasp it the same way feminists did during a time of repression towards women. Most feminists understood the concept and accepted it whole-heartedly, as with the term they believed that it could bring about social change. If this ideal could become widespread, if not only feminists but others as well could recognize that the person is political, then the way people thought about women’s gender roles could change and with that bring equality.
