In Summary Robert’s Media’s is a publisher of an industry-leading upmarket fashion magazine, whose customer base is ‘affluent 45 to 54-year-old woman’. Currently, the business is struggling to succeed in its current market due to; the 2008 recession, competition from other magazines and a consumer movement from print to digital media. Due to this struggle the business currently has poor financial performance, which has led to a fall in the firm 's share price, thus there was a Board decision to appoint a new CEO, Harry Gardner, who has experience in marketing for a national newspaper, magazines, and a subscription television channel. Harry 's set a corporate aim to improve ROCE to at least 8% within two years, he also suggests a transformational change in strategy. This involves the migration of Roberts Media print titles to a digital format, which will result in a 20% market share.
Overall I believe that the Directors of Roberts Media plc should accept Harry Gardner’s proposal. Due to the fact the business is suffering from falling; sale and profit level 's (12% fall in the last year). This was caused by a reduction in the popularity of the magazine as it is undifferentiated and the market is very saturated. By following Harry’s proposal the company will move into a growing market quickly, before other competitors, as a result of this, they will quickly conquer a 20% sustainable market share of the online magazine sector, together with an expand in their target market
During the recent dotcom boom, the New York Times Company (NYTC) poured more money into this department while pursuing its aggressive growth strategy for the department. However, due to a down turn in the economy, along with the burst of the dotcom bubble, tolerance for NYTD’s losses was quickly eroding away. Now that the profits of the NYTC have shown a decline, corporate executives are looking for ways
Helen’s is an upmarket fashion boutique store in Sydney’s east. Falling sales have been reflected by surveys that reveal consumers view the business as outdated and no longer relevant to consumers’ needs. Strong competition in the area has placed considerable pressure on pricing. The business’s target market, 50-65 year old females, no longer dominated the now younger demographic character of the area.
In order to test these suppositions, the researchers undertook several room cultures studies to examine, monitor and evaluate adolescent media consumption habits. This resulted in the following model, which conceptualizes the three most significant dimensions of mass media uses and effects.3
Louis Nowra subverts the stereotypes present in the media, by constructing characters that we empathize with.

The value of Travis Perkins plc can be described from the following aspects: First, from the aspect of the relationship with consumers, the company understands the expectations and needs of consumers, respecting them and responding them in time. Second, from the aspect of the group itself, the company works together as a united family to solve problems first when faced problems instead of criticizing someone first. Third, from the aspect of development, the company has a deep understanding of what they do now and what they are going to do next, pursuing being the best (Travis Perkins plc,2011, p10).
Jones Blair Company, JBC, currently faces a unique challenge in which the upper level management must act in order to maintain its profitability. Jones Blair current market position is in the process of being eroded due to the mass merchandising efforts of companies like Kmart and Sears. In developing their strategy forward, Jones must address two key issues to address the problem statement. First, Jones Blair must determine which marketing medium they will use to access their potential customers. Secondly, they must determine the geographic locations in which

Another issue facing this corporation is the question, what should we do next? Harry Rosen Inc. is not in a stagnant position where they are facing a road block and are unable to grow, but rather how should they grow successfully? The obvious strategic move is to expand their locations and try to have a larger customer base. Over the years, they have followed this strategy but focused on investing capital into renovating store locations to enhance each customer’s shopping experience. By renovating each store and acquiring more retail space, it allows them to cater to their different customer’s taste as oppose to being limited to only selling suits and formal wear.
I would consider lowering price points so I could tap into the more than 10% of consumers without becoming “Wal-Mart”. Now the company did do something to increase its’ position that I found useful. That was to decrease its’ overall lease space by 2%. (2010 shareholders meeting). This reduction in retail occupancy costs attributed to the 1 billion dollars the company enjoyed last year. I would also consider expanding the company’s customer base by broadening the product line to similar to Home Goods or Bed Bath and beyond who currently double the revenue of Williams-Sonoma. (Redistribute assets earmarked for traditional cataloging to online accesses. Not only will this save money, but will also impact paper usage. I believe advertising in this was has all but outlived its’ usefulness.
(4) Absent any resource constraints, which of the four departmental directions do you think is the most viable? Which is the second best strategy? Which is the least viable? In my humble opinion the most viable option would be to follow Eric Stanger’s advice to go ‘back to basics’. In order to underwrite the new line of LR trademark and experiment with more new products, they had in effect been milking the OM lines. Their price increase on several of our more critical items had outpaced those of their key competitors, in order to always deliver more bottom line profits. They had shaved their A&P budgets for the same purpose and this was resulting in slippage in value and trust among our consumer franchise thus the declining sales and share. They thus needed to cut on
This case explains the challenges of newly promoted Domestic Brand Director, Anne Regnante, as she explores different options to increasing profits by 10% for Stewart’s household product division. Regnante’s primary concern is generating growth for its outdated and stagnant product, Reliance Baking Soda (RBS).

The Role of Media in the Society Media has always played a huge role in our society. For a long time media was one of the methods of controlling people and leisure. In ancient times when there was no newspapers and television, people used literature as source of information, some books like "the Iliad", and different stories about great kings, shows those people the information about them. Nowadays media is one of the main part of our lives and our society, because we use word media, to combine all sources of information. Average man is spending 4 hours a day on watching TV and reading newspapers.
JL MC 477 has influenced my thoughts and perspectives of how the media represents diverse cultures, ethnicities, social classes, and even gender. This course has helped me clarify how and why the media identifies each group with their own stereotype or portrayal. Before the course, I had a general idea of what the media portrayed specific groups as, but now I am able to understand deeper because this course enhanced my thinking and analysis of each one. I have become aware that many of the portrayals of these groups from the media reflect reality.
