The Devil Wear Prada is a movie about a fashion magazine company, the editor was Miranda Priestly, who is played by Meryl Streep. The star of the movie is Andrea Sachs, played by Anne Hathaway. Andrea sachs decide to look for a job at a Fashion magazine company named Runway. Her goal was to work there for a year and than move on. Andrea was hired and displayed Positive Organizational Behavior through out the movie “the study and application of positively oriented human resource strengths and psychological capacities that can be measured, developed, and effectively managed for performance improvement in today 's workplaces” (Kinicki, Angelo, & Mel Fugate 13). Miranda was a highly respected magazine editor and ran the company with an iron fist. Andrea was the second assistant Emily was the first. Emily let Andrea know right away that she was the head assistant, that even dough then both had the same title; she had to listen to her, get the coffee, hang up Miranda Priestly coat and purse. And Andrea only could get fifteen minutes for lunch while she got twenty minutes. Andrea Sachs was a total mess when she first started, she was doing a lot of Emily 's job and Emily was mean and at times abusive. Director Roberto Rossellini uses this film to portray the drastic consequences of war on a nation, the people, and overall society. Neorealism was a pivotal movement, and Paisan brought attention to the Fascist influence by showing the harsh economic and social reality of World War II. Rossellini also uses Paisan to allude to regionalism and the importance of a unified nation. Paisan exposes a fundamental truth and emphasizes a need for reconstruction through the use of a complex setting, elements of humanity, and reoccurring themes of revival.
Pariah is an acclaimed drama written and directed by director Dee Rees in 2011. The film tells the story of an adolescent African American teenage girl named Alike who struggles with her identity as a lesbian. The film introduces Alike to the audience in a club, in which she often hangs out with her openly gay friend, Laura. This rambunctious lifestyle is quickly contrasted by the introduction to her notably structured and religious family. Alike’s mother, Audrey, in particular, seems to not only oppose Alike’s friendship with Laura, but also question her sexuality. Although Alike struggles with an oppressive relationship with her mother, she also does not seem to wholly fit in with Laura and her brazen lifestyle, thus making her a true outcast, a pariah. Amidst everything, Alike forges a friendship with a girl named Bina and a complicated and disastrous relationship quickly ensues, ultimately resulting in Alike’s coming out, estrangement from her mother, and her departure to college. Director Dee Rees draws on particular filmmaking techniques and personal experiences to depict Alike’s struggles to embrace her lesbian identity, ultimately in order to fuel a growing gay rights sentiment.
“Tonight I gotta cut loose, footloose, kick off my sunday shoes. Jack, get back, come on before we crack.” (Footloose, Kenny Loggins) For this essay, I chose to watch Footloose made in 1984 and directed by Herbert Ross and Footloose made in 2011 directed by Craig Brewer. Both movies centered around the town of Bomont, a secluded town with out of the ordinary beliefs. In this town, dancing and partying of any sort was strictly against the law and teenagers were seemingly miserable. There was little to no self expression and even listening to provocative music or any music too loud, could get you a ticket with a hefty fine. The reason behind the strict rules is that several years back, five teens from Bomont High School died in a car wreck after they were drinking and dancing too much. Each of these movies have some things in common, but have more differences than anything. Some of the main differences are the opening credits of each movie, how and who Ren arrives to Bomont at the beginning of the movie, the “chicken” races between Ren and Jeff, and the book burning in town square.

Imagine the world is invaded by aliens. Some of them eat humans, some live among humans, and others live outside of our world. You don’t know it, but many of the people who have shaped our lives and our culture aren’t even human themselves. This is the world of the 1997 film Men in Black, directed by Barry Sonnenfeld. Men in Black is a sci-fi comedy about a group of enforcement agents defending and regulating aliens from invading Earth. But if you take their costume off, Men In Black can be seen as far more than a comedy about space aliens. Under the lens of postcolonial criticism, the film reveals itself to be a veiled, political commentary on immigration. A lens is a way for us to look at a piece of literature in a whole new depiction that we may not have thought of the first time we had read or watched a piece of literature. Through the postcolonial lens, I can see the movie as a biased contrast between the immigrants and the immigration police. Interpreting the movie through this lens allows me to see that the Men in Black are the immigration police, and are considered to be the protagonists of the film. On the other hand, the aliens, or immigrants when looking through the lens, are the antagonists of the movie; The Men in Black protect the US from bad aliens, giving immigration police the positive reinforcement of the brutal evictions immigrants received in the 90s.

By utilizing a depressing and gloomy cinematography, De Sica implies the somber lives of the poor and their crisis in losing their self-identity and moral conscience as a result of parochial society that make a fetish of personal belongings as a mode of social acceptance. By examining the cinematography, ‘mise-en-scene’ and events in the film, the daily struggles of the working class in post war Rome can be seen through the crisis of masculinity, class struggle, ethical dilemma and a profoundly patriarchal society.

One thing that has never changed is the filmmaker’s interest in representing society in the present day. For better or worse, film has a habit of showing the world just what it values the most. In recent years, scholars have begun to pay attention to what kinds of ideas films are portraying (Stern, Steven E. and Handel, 284). Alarmingly, viewers, especially young women, are increasingly influenced by the lifestyle choices and attitudes that they learn from watching these films (Steele, 331). An example of this can be seen in a popular trope of the “romantic comedy” genre in this day and age: the powerful man doing something to help, or “save” the less powerful woman, representing a troubling “sexual double standard” (Smith, Stacy L, Pieper, Granados, Choueiti, 783).
