After reading both passages I have to say i agree with, "Screen Time Limits Are Vital for Children." I choose the side of this passage becasue i think it is true that technology is taking over rapidly. The attention spands of young children these days is controlled by screens of technology devices. I see it in my own relatives as well, for instance my younger cousin that is in second grade. My cousin has a iphone and she is always on it as much as she can be unless at school. This i think is not good for herself and other young youth's future ahead. As said in the passage, "Studies report that television viewing by preschoolers lowers their executive funtions such as the ability to complete a given task." If this continues on ahead children
When reading the contrasting passages, Screen Time Limits Are Vital for Children and It's Time to Let Go of Screen Fears, many diffrences are listed in the overall health of children. In regards to the wellbeing of future generations this topic will contiously be explored. That being said, technology has proven it is now a vital part of everyday life. Limiting our children from inevitable screen time will prove more difficult as future generations grow-up with this endless technological world we live in.
eople would argue against limiting screen time for younger children. However some arguments can be made for letting children watch television when they are very young. A poor mouse lost its youth for the effects of overstimulation to be proven, and such a valiant sacrifice should not go in vain. Along with the sacrifice of the mice that served under Dr. Christakis, our future citizens are having their perceptions of reality augmented even before they go to preschool or kindergarten. Combined with the attention deficit, these preconceived notions of different places can lead a school to have some serious issues. The core issue with this is that it is very difficult to moderate a child 's viewing of the television, playing of video games, or accessing of the Internet, especially because younger people have more fluid of electronic devices. The benefits of caring for a child during its infancy, instead of sticking it in front of a screen, outweigh whatever free time would be obtained by letting the child experience over stimulation.
Have you ever heard this or personally been told this? My parents would tell me this all the time. It is used for more than one thing. Friends, education, reading, etc. The list goes on and on. Most critics rely on screen time not the screen quality. Outsiders don't really know what is the real deal. A problem always results when a person doesn't have 100% of details. Assumptions are always made. In the passage it says, "The truth is that what is viewed on a screen and how it is viewed is more important than the amount of viewing time". A toddler can run around all day blabbing some type of alien language. We don't know what they could be saying. If they have the chance to watch an educational show, they will develop vocabulary from that show. In the first passage, "Screen Time Limits Are Vital for Children" it mentions that 'play time' doesn't help the development. Personally this is a big debate. But putting it into perspective, it makes sense. A child will develop vocabulary or hands on skills if they have the chance to have play
("Screen time takes a mental and physical toll on kids.") Watching too much TV can lead to laziness, and weight gain. Studies show that kids that dont go out and play anymore are out of shape. Children 2 years of age should be limited up to 2 hours of tv time a day, studies show that children who watches tv delays brain devlopment. ("The devlopment toll might be more worrying.") Delayed brain devlopment is very popular, in kids who dont get green time. Reseach shows that there
The topic we are discussing in this essay is if 2 year old children should increase their on-screen time or decrease it. One side of the argument doesn’t want the children to get more than 2 hours of on-screen time because they believe it may harm them. The other side of the argument wants the children to get the children to get 2 to 3 times more on-screen time because they believe it would benefit them in the long run. Alright readers can you just go on and read the next paragraph please I need those grades.
Statistics show that screen time negatively affects children’s learning abilities and development. “The effects of so much screen time can include speech delays, aggressive behavior and obesity.” (Lavey) Since parents play a role in how much television their kids can watch, they can minimize the chances of their brains not developing correctly. “The first 2 years of life are considered a critical time for brain development. TV and other electronic media can get in the way of exploring, playing, and interacting with parents and others, which encourages learning and healthy physical and social development.” (Kids Health) Children do
The American Association of Pediatrics has recommended a limit of two hours of screen time per day for teenagers. But, at and after school kids are on their devices for homework and for educational purposes and other leisure activities. These students are on their computers for more than two hours going past the recommendation by doing only schoolwork. Because students are asked to use devices in school screen time should be increased to four hours a day.
In the passage, "Screen Time Limits Are Vital for Children," the author makes a clear stance that children should be limited on how much time that they're allowed to watch television, be on a computer, a media device, or a video game. The author of this passage states that, "between 2011 and 2013, children ages eight and under more than doubled their use of media decives and screens." To add more statistics, "children in the United States have an
In the issue of screen time for children, I think it is not as relevant as people make it out to be. While time in front of a screen is a contributing factor, it is only one of many. The real concern should be with content and how children react to that content, and also the level of parental guidance.
My own position on the issue of whether or not childeren should be restricted from spending time in front of media screens. What i really think is that childeren should be restricted for spending to much time in front or on media screens. The reason being is becasue (paragragh 4") it say in this text that in many of the studies report that television viewing by preschoolers lowers thier executive functionssuch as the ability to complete a given task. It also leads to lower test scores later in school an it aslo says that for the first time its seein a decrease in the kids creativity. Also, to me i think that these kids don't have to be completly but they shouldn't spend almost all there time on it. this is why i do agree with the fact of keeping
With all of these studies, it can be difficult to make a decishion on screen time and what's best for our children. We all as perents only want the best for our children. Because of all the information it is difficult to say if it is the screen time is the factor that causes these negitive effects, or maybe there were other factors.
My opinion on the issue of whether or not children should be restricted from spending time in front of media screens is, they should be able to spend at least a couple hours a day watching tv, playing video games, etc. Another thing is kids should be outside playing too, it doesn't mean they should pick one or the other.
All of my life I have heard about the dangers of an excess amount of screen time. I have heard that it affects your vision, sleep schedule, energy, overall mood, and even success in school or on the job. In the past I may have disagreed with these statements because of my stubborn personality and because of my own inclination of overusing such technological devices, but now I have come to somewhat agree with these accusations against social medias, video games, and television. I look on how it has seemingly affected my own life, and I lean towards the arguement of the first passage. At times I even wonder what my life would be like without the large amount of exposure I have to these devices on the daily.
With new technology and advances in education it is no wonder the use of computers, iPads, and other devices are trickling into the daily life of our younger generations. Perhaps these advances could be doing more harm than providing the enriching education parents and schools think they are. There are now elementary schools where every child has their own iPad and middle schools with Chrome Books the students can take home. Even paper textbooks are being replaced with electronic versions. The use of technology moving forward with education needs to be balanced with critical factors involving a child’s development. Children must be separated from constant attachment to screens to properly learn and develop necessary social skills to become adults who are able to interact and communicate.
Do you think that screen time should be limited. If not this paper will tell you some of the harmful things screen time can do to you.
