I have always had a great admiration for animals. Being an animal owner of two dogs, I believe that they are a friend of the human and both benefit from each other in the sense of company and joy. They are also great contributors to the balance of the eco system. These are some of the various reasons why I chose this topic. In this research paper I will inform you, the reader of the horrible experiences that innocent animals have to endure due to the fact that supporters believe that animal experimenting is a humane method of bettering our lives. Animal experimentation is a very substantial issue that has been debated for a large period of time. The antagonism of animal experimenting is not a new issue. Numerous people support the usage …show more content…
There are several areas of experimenting. One includes basic research, which is biomedical research to investigate animals in a physiological manner where animals are seen more as machines and necessarily don’t experience pain. There is also applied biomedical research where animals are used for disease testing by testing and toxic substances and also surgical research is conducted where physical pain occurs .Another field is regulatory testing of drugs, compounds and products and animals are forced take these substances according to regulations. Similar to routine testing there is also routine testing for biological substances such as vaccines before they are put out for the use of people. In this field sadly the animals have to develop the horrible symptoms of the disease itself before they are given the vaccine. Lastly, animals are used for educational purposes, where animals are used for dissection in undergraduate classes and students often have no choice but to dissect the animals if they expect to succeed in their career (Kolar, 114). Advocates of animal experimenting believe that animals should be used for the advancement of humans. They believe that is ethical and uncruel to animals. Many also believe that animals don’t have rights due to the fact that they are inferior to the human kind. They also dispute that animal research is a great method towards the advancement of medicine and has contributed greatly over the past years. Lastly, they assume
Although animal experimentation has been around for centuries, the ethical revival of realization on the moral status of animals began in the 1970’s. This problem was a few among many that had been quietly hidden for years until the 1970’s.
“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated” (Mahatma Gandhi). Scientists have been using animals for biomedical research for centuries. They provide a source to get information scientists can not get without harming humans. A lot of debate is spread about whether it is good or bad. Animal experimentation is a controversial topic because it is helpful to humans, but it is also cruel and inhumane.
Animal experimentation is a brutal way to see if products are going to be able to be used on humans. When scientists test products on animals, it causes the helpless them to be in excessive amounts of pain. The animals experience murderous tests like drilling into their skulls, and burning their skin, and eyes. Even though animal experimentation helps to find new diseases and medicines that are safe for humans, scientists should not use animals to experiment on because it doesn't always work ,and the tests are causing unnecessary harm to living animals.
Animals make good research subjects for a variety of reasons. Animals are biologically similar to humans. They are susceptible to many of the same health problems, and they have short life cycles so they can easily be studied throughout their whole life span or across or several generations. Animals are used in research to develop drugs and medical procedures to treat diseases. Scientists may discover such drugs and procedures using alternative research methods that do not involve animals. The safety within products is tested on animals before it is on
The first documented case of animal experimentation was in 1628, meaning that it has been around for almost four-hundred years. Animal experimentation is a disgusting form of torturing poor, helpless creatures, just for science. Over one-hundred million animals are killed every year due to animal experimentation. Although animal experimentation has been around for a very long time, it is time to make a better future for these poor creatures. Animals should not be used for any type of experimentation. It affects the creature mentally, physically, and internally. Also the alternatives for animal experimentation are endless, and many animals die unjustified.
Experimentation is a vital aspect of all sciences, as it validates hypothesis and furthers scientific development. However, many believe that science crosses the line when animals become subjected to experimentation as a way to further research. This is a controversial topic, as it examines what to us, as humans, is more important, morality or science? These animals are forced to endure pain and suffering, in an attempt to prolong and ease the lives of humans. Animal vivisection is unethical, and there are alternatives that can be utilized, therefore, it should be lessened, and ultimately eradicated.
The goal is to minimize and ultimately replacing animal experimentations with non-animal methods. After reading the two references that were utilized, the article written by Stephanie Liou, “Animal Research: The Ethics of Animal Experimentation,” is an unbiased unlike “Animal Experimentation” who seems to be a reformist after utilizing words such as “exaggerated” when describing arguments against experiments.
There are many debates about whether or not animals such as mice and rats should be experimented on. The organization Psychologist for the Ethical Treatment of Animals believes in observing animals instead of experimenting on them (Meyer). Another known organization is People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). An organization that is in favor of animal experimentation is called Pro-Test and is located in the United Kingdom (UK). This organization thinks that experimenting on animals may help humans. About 95% of animals are not protected by the Animal Welfare Act like reptiles, birds and mice (“Animal Testing”). Experimentation on animals should not be permitted in any country, including the United States, because it is cruel and inhumane, because we have developed new technology that can replace these experiments, and because sometimes the results that are found are not directly relevant to humans.
“Animal experimentation is the term used to explain the use of animals in education, training and research” (“Animal Experimentation” ) in order to enhance medical and cosmetological experimentation for humans, and involves keeping animals locked up in a laboratory. The sole purpose of animal experimentation and the use of animals in research dates back to when humans started looking for ways to cure and prevent deadly diseases. Today, “the majority of animal experiments do not contribute to improving human health, and the value of the role that animal experimentation plays in most medical advances is questionable” (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. par. 1). In other words, animal experimentation is not justified in the world we
Animal experiments happen all over the world, but are they necessary? People have different feelings for animals; many looks upon animals as companions while others view animals as a means for advancing medical techniques or furthering experimental research. Some say that these experiments are not painful, so they are justified. Where others believe that all these experiments are inhumane, and nothing can justify torturing and killing innocent animals. Although animal testing helps in improving human health by leading to medical advancements, there is no need to physically and psychologically torture innocent animals because studies show that testing on human cells gives better results.
Animal Experimentation has been a debated topic for decades. While most scientists claim that it is necessary, animal activists believe it is inhumane. Both groups have tenacious arguments, but scientists have no real proof that their successes could not have been achieved without animal testing. As a result, the argument against animal experimentation proves to be more effective.
Supporters of animal experimentation argue that it is crucial to the development of medicine and technology. They also hold on to the idea that the sacrifice of a few animals’ is not comparable to the lives of humans. An article from Health Reference Center Academic, states that “Animal experimentation in scientific research is a good thing: important,
Put yourself into an animal’s position. Imagine that you are being poked and probed by needles for the benefits of humans. II. Animals are being abuse more and more everyday in scientific experiments. III. I have pets and I’m against animal testing, so knowing that animals are used in research is appalling. IV. Some research and scientific experiments are impractical and immoral. Animals are being overly abuse. V. Today, I am going to discuss to you about the three major ways of how scientific experiments on animal is inhumane: there is unnecessary
“Imagine living inside a locked closet without any control over any aspect of your life. You can’t choose when and what you eat, how you will spend your time, whether or not you will have a partner and children, or who that partner will be. You can’t even decide when the lights go on and off. (Cruelty to Animals in Laboratories.)” This is the horrifying reality that animals used in animal experiments have to face. Animal experimentation is the use of animals in scientific research. Animals help scientists learn more about diseases that occur in humans and animals. Scientists also use animals to test new treatments, medicines, surgical techniques, and more. Different animals can be used for these experiments and the experiments can
Animal experimentation by scientists can be cruel and unjust, but at the same time it can provide long term benefits for humanity. Animals used in research and experiments have been going on for 2,000 years and keep is going strong. It is a widely debated about topic all over the world. Some say it is inhuman while others say it’s for the good of human kind. There are many different reasons why people perform experiments and why others total disagree with it.
