Abstract
It is cruel for animals to continue to be tortured when it is unnecessary. It has been proven that the tests performed on animals have different effects on humans. Companies are using animals to test the safety of their products using old methods that were created back in the early 1900s. There has been enough scientific advancement for these companies to use other methods using 21st century technology. Unfortunately, there are not enough laws or regulations in the U.S. to protect the safety of all animals. The penalties for companies who violate current laws on animal cruelty do not outweigh the economic benefits companies reap from their research. The FDA 's stance on animal testing falls closely to the middle. Companies are neither discouraged or encouraged to test on animals. However, the FDA has stated they would like the maximum amount of information using the fewest animals as humanely as possible. There are several factors to consider when testing cosmetics. Companies need to know if their products will cause an allergic reaction, eye damage, infertility, birth defects, or toxicity when absorbed through the skin, lungs, or digestive tract. They also need to observe the effects of long-term exposure and whether they 're carcinogenic. Companies opt out of testing on humans because it 's inhumane and if something goes wrong, it might severely harm a human being and cause permanent damage. Therefore, companies test on animals, such as mice, rats, guinea pigs or bunnies. Some people consider this inhumane, while others accept it as a part of science. For example, Europe has banned products that have been tested on animals entirely. On the other hand, China actually requires animal testing on finished products.
