Animal Testing
You are one of the 26 million each year chosen to suffer from testing and in laboratories. You are one of the fifty chosen just for that certain test. You are and the other 26 million are not the lucky ones. That 26 million are being murder in laboratories every year (Should Animals… Testing? 1). Innocent animals are being brutally killed to serve humans through animal testing for cosmetic products when this brutality could be stopped by educating the consumers that there are many reliable alternatives which do not involve animal suffering.
Animal testing is the use of non humans used during experimental research. This cruel and inhumane practice has been around since 500 B.C. (Should Animals...Testing? 1). Animal testing is used for many different things because it is inexpensive and if something does go wrong, there is no damage done to humans. It is also legally appealing to the companies and organizations that are doing the testing due to the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) which is an that is designed to protect animals from being tested on. This act was passed in 1966 (Connor 1). Animal testing is appealing because “ninety-five percent of animals used in experiments, birds, rats and mice are examples, are not protected by AWA”, and this is why they are the animals most frequently tested on (Should Animals...Testing? 1). Although animal testing, especially in the cosmetic sector, is an effective way to test
When picking out your mascara, do you stop to see what kind of makeup you are using? You could be supporting animal cruelty and not even know it. Today many makeup products are being tested on animals such as Covergirl, Revlon and even MAC. We have made numerous advancements in the world and have established the scientific evolution but it seems that our ethics and morals have failed to progress. The knowledge and power we have is exceptional, but with it comes responsibility to use it wisely and ethically. We kill and torture creatures that we arrogantly consider lesser beings. For something as simple as mascara animals are tortured and blinded by tests performed at the laboratory. It is estimated that each year over 100 million animals are being performed on for different types of experiments all around the world. Most of the things being performed in these labs you could never imagine one human being doing to another. I believe that animal testing should be banned because it is cruel, not very reliable, inaccurate, and is proved to be unnecessary.
Moreover, animal testing is a cruel and inhumane way to torture and kill animals for mankind’s own benefit. For instance, every day animals are discarded like yesterday’s trash. The Humane Society International gave an approximate outlook on animals that are murdered by stating, “An estimated 100,000-200,000 animals are killed in cosmetic laboratories each year” (“About Cosmetics Animal Testing” 1). Although, some will argue that it is worth the kill to make shampoo, makeup, etc., harmless to humans; however, animals shouldn't be used for something as non-essential as cosmetics. Animals are not meant to wear makeup, yet products will be applied to
Protesting has been going around the world for many of years. Throughout many years of people boycotted agents a situation they believe, if a wrong or right. One of the biggest areas on where people gather around and protest is when they’re fighting agents animals testing. As well as the years has pasted on protesting on animals, it became more sires in increased in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Many cosmetics companies been testing on animals throughout the years there is also many that have not. The cosmetics line LUSH has been fighting over animals testing for over thirty years and will continue to fight for their right according to the company. When LUSH had first started the company had divided they didn 't ever wanted to test their product on animal. Not only fighting agents animals testing LUSH is also ego friendly; everything they use its plants, oil, and recycle. Since LUSH having to be agents animal testing, policies had created to work with the companies of cosmetics to end the cruelty of animals. The LUSH company say “ This can be done without animal testing …” and it true. LUSH is a company that all there product dills with ones skin to make them fell and look beautiful. If LUSH can test their products other than animals and still make your still looking good then, other cosmetics companies can do the same.
Imagine being born, only to live a life of torture. You are brought to a lab, and cruelly tested on against your will. Toxins poured into your eyes, painful injections to your skin, then left to die when you’re no longer useful. Although many do not realize it, people use products tested on animals in their everyday lives. For girls, many of your favorite makeup brands, such as Estee Lauder, Makeup Forever, and Maybelline take part in animal testing. Products such as toothpaste, cologne, deodorant, laundry detergent, razors, and even band-aids aren’t tested innocently, either. As a makeup enthusiast, I am passionate about how the products I use daily are tested. Today I will help you understand what animal testing is and how it started, how it’s currently affecting animals around the world, and what organizations are doing to help make a difference in the future. To begin, I will explain the history of animal testing. An animal test is any scientific experiment or test in which a live animal is forced to undergo something that is likely to cause them pain, suffering, distress, or lasting harm.(https://www.crueltyfreeinternational.org/why-we-do-it/what-animal-testing) Animal experiments are not the same as taking your animal to the vet. Animals used in laboratories are harmed, not for their own good, and usually killed at the end of an experiment. Animal experiments include injecting or force feeding animals with potentially harmful substances, exposing animals to radiation,
For many years, the field of science has used animals in medical experiments worldwide, because of this innocent animals are being killed everyday. They are being tested with new drugs, new treatments, and by many makeup companies. Connecticut recently celebrated the passage of the “Beagle Freedom Law”, a law that requires laboratories to work with charities and rescue groups to find homes for research cats and dogs. Animals are being tested so humans do not have to be but animal tests do not reliably predict results in human beings, although animals are the closest thing to humans. Most experiments involving animals are flawed, wasting the lives of innocent animal subjects. Over 100 million animals suffer a year from testing. Testing animals is a lot more expensive than alternative methods and it is wasting government research dollars. Animal testing is not only a bad idea, but it is also inhuman and it should not be tolerated. The FDA should stop allowing animal testing. An animal does not give out the same results on a test than a human would.
Everyday cosmetic products that many people use, such as lipsticks, shampoo, face wash, etcetera, are verified to be safe using animal testing. Chemical burns and other short term ailments are very serious concerns that plague Americans and the knowledge that the products they use will not harm them and their families is possible because of animal testing. Also long term effects, such as cancer, have been discovered through animal product testing and promptly stopped saving countless lives. “NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS YOU’RE THE GUINEA PIG” (Source C). Living day to day with the risk that the products trusted to use on your children and yourself is enough to validate
Our country is home to a handful of cosmetic and skin care companies, many of which have become a part of our society’s daily routine. What many of us users may not know about these products is how they have been tested to their perfection. A large amount of companies choose to use an outdated and cruel way of testing product’s safety for in order to ensure perfection. Animals aid testing by being an empty slate for these cosmetic companies to test and improve their products. However, with other testing options available, why do companies continue to use this cruel and inhumane way of using animals for our selfish benefits? The first year that Animal Testing started was 1922. Now, 94 years
Animal testing is a very serious issue, considering the fact that it kills one-hundred thousand to two-hundred thousand animals each year (“About”). Many companies do not believe that animal testing is a serious problem and find that there are issues that are more important to worry about. The FDA believes that animal tests should be replaced with other tests that do not involve the use of animals because of the harm it causes them (“Animal Testing and Cosmetics”). Animals have emotions and feelings just as humans do, even though they are not always noticeable. Although animal-tested cosmetic products are very popular and used everyday by most people, animals are being hurt and killed daily to create them, therefore they should be banned
Throughout history, beginning as early as 500 BC, animals have been used to test out products that will later be utilized by humans (“Animal Testing” 4), what isn’t publicly discussed about is the way it will leave the animals after the process is done. Many innocent rabbits, monkeys, mice, and even popular pets such as dogs are harmed during the testing application of cosmetics, medicine, perfumes, and many other consumer products (Donaldson 2). Nevertheless, there are many people whom support the scandal because "it is a legal requirement to carry out animal testing to ensure they are safe and effective” for human benefit (Drayson). The overall question here is should it even be an authorized form of experimentation in the United States, or anywhere else? The fact of the matter is that there are alternatives to remove animals out of the equation for good (“Alternatives to Animal Testing” 1). They are cheaper, and less invasive than the maltreatment of the 26 million innocent animals that are subjected to the heartlessness of testing each year (“Animal Testing” 4). With all things considered, animal testing should be looked upon as animal cruelty due to the harsh effects from the many products tested on the innocent.
Animal testing is a secret most companies don’t like to share. It is a global problem that needs to be put to an end. The use of animal testing is used in medicine, cosmetics and for educational purposes and it is immoral and unnecessary when we have advanced technologies that can replace these harmful methods.
“Animal testing is needless, especially in cosmetics” (Leona Lewis). Animals are being mistreated because of U.S labs. Furthermore, animals are dying in experimenting labs from the cruel and hard conditions. Although, animals often make better research subjects than human beings because of their shorter life cycles, animals should not be tested in experiments, because animal testing is cruel and inhumane, animals used in experiments are are commonly using force feeding, force inhalation, food and water deprivation, and many others.
Throughout history, animal testing has played a monumental role in leading to new discoveries and human benefits. However, what many people tend to forget are the millions of animals that are tortured and killed during these painful, deadly experiments. Imagine being a family pet, but instead of living in a warm home with a caring family, living locked up in a small metal cage, only being let out to swallow harmful chemicals, to be poked and prodded with needles, and to be injected with chemicals. And after the animal’s use for testing is over, they are either killed or die because of their injuries. This is an impractical, unsafe way to find out the safety of everyday products. Animal testing is an impractical, inhumane method of cosmetic testing not worth the resulting multitude of animal deaths when humans could easily be substituted as the test subject.
Much progress has been made to end this testing, gearing the world into the right direction of animal testing free procedures, though, not everyone is on board. The United States have yet to hop onto the train toward a free animal testing future. The United States continues to test on animals for cosmetics even though there are numerous ways to test, without using animals, that are more efficient and effective than animal testing. (3D tissue samples of corneas made from human cells can be used instead of using an animal organ when testing for cosmetics side effects.) What is worse than the United States still testing on animals, is that there is continued demand for even more animal
My thesis is that animal testing should be banned from our society altogether. Animal rights advocates argue that testing is a subject that has been argued countless amount of times in medical journals, and it has shown that it is a waste of animal lives. Subsequently, processing of a single drug requires more than 50 trials and use of as many as 12,000 animals. Moreover, regardless of the ethical issues that derive from animal testing, the infliction of physical/psychological distress on animals are resource and time deterring. Furthermore, animal experimentation provides a source of limited knowledge of how certain chemicals would behave in a human body. (Humane Society International).
Animal testing has long played a part in the science of testing, and it still plays a very important role in the medical world. Testing on animals in order to create a cure for AIDS is one thing, but testing on animals for human vanity is another. Animal testing is used to test the safety of a product. It has kept some very unsafe substances out of the cosmetic world. However, in this day in age, animal testing is not the only way to test the safety of a product. Animal testing in cosmetics has decreased over the years. However, it is still used by many companies in America. Animal testing is not only cruel, but it is also unnecessary in today’s advanced scientific world.
