Animal Rights Demand Protection
My thesis is that animal testing should be banned from our society altogether. Animal rights advocates argue that testing is a subject that has been argued countless amount of times in medical journals, and it has shown that it is a waste of animal lives. Subsequently, processing of a single drug requires more than 50 trials and use of as many as 12,000 animals. Moreover, regardless of the ethical issues that derive from animal testing, the infliction of physical/psychological distress on animals are resource and time deterring. Furthermore, animal experimentation provides a source of limited knowledge of how certain chemicals would behave in a human body. (Humane Society International).
Animal rights critics disagree. The National Association for Biomedical Research claims that every major medical advance is attributable to experiments on animals. Subsequently. approximately 70% of the American public supports the necessity of animal usage in biomedical research, since human testing is ethically unacceptable. Similarly, the 1997 USDA report, exposes the statistical data supporting the claim that most research (92%) was not painful to the animals involved. In the majority of cases (54%), the animals were “not directly exposed to painful procedures”.(National Association for Biomedical Research). In approximately 38% of cases, anesthesia or pain-relieving drugs were given in order to alleviate pain or distress. In about 8% of research
The use of animals in scientific research has hugely increased in the last few years. A research conducted by Dr. Hadwen Trust suggests that approximately 115 millions animals are used in scientific experimentation every year (qtd in “Fact and figures”). Animal testing, also known as animal vivisection, is a process before human clinical trials, where animals are used in experiments to determine toxicity, dosing and efficacy of drugs (Biology dictionary). Although some scientists argue that animal testing is necessary to ensure safety, animal testing is unreliable, dangerous and unnecessary.
Protesting has been going around the world for many of years. Throughout many years of people boycotted agents a situation they believe, if a wrong or right. One of the biggest areas on where people gather around and protest is when they’re fighting agents animals testing. As well as the years has pasted on protesting on animals, it became more sires in increased in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Many cosmetics companies been testing on animals throughout the years there is also many that have not. The cosmetics line LUSH has been fighting over animals testing for over thirty years and will continue to fight for their right according to the company. When LUSH had first started the company had divided they didn 't ever wanted to test their product on animal. Not only fighting agents animals testing LUSH is also ego friendly; everything they use its plants, oil, and recycle. Since LUSH having to be agents animal testing, policies had created to work with the companies of cosmetics to end the cruelty of animals. The LUSH company say “ This can be done without animal testing …” and it true. LUSH is a company that all there product dills with ones skin to make them fell and look beautiful. If LUSH can test their products other than animals and still make your still looking good then, other cosmetics companies can do the same.
In the 21st century I would get rid of animal testing .Animal research has had a vital role in many scientific and medical advances of the past century and continues to aid our understanding of various diseases throughout the world.
For many years, the field of science has used animals in medical experiments worldwide, because of this innocent animals are being killed everyday. They are being tested with new drugs, new treatments, and by many makeup companies. Connecticut recently celebrated the passage of the “Beagle Freedom Law”, a law that requires laboratories to work with charities and rescue groups to find homes for research cats and dogs. Animals are being tested so humans do not have to be but animal tests do not reliably predict results in human beings, although animals are the closest thing to humans. Most experiments involving animals are flawed, wasting the lives of innocent animal subjects. Over 100 million animals suffer a year from testing. Testing animals is a lot more expensive than alternative methods and it is wasting government research dollars. Animal testing is not only a bad idea, but it is also inhuman and it should not be tolerated. The FDA should stop allowing animal testing. An animal does not give out the same results on a test than a human would.
Animal testing has many advantages that have made a better society for people. Animal testing can be defined as, “the use of non-human animals in research and development projects, esp. for purposes of determining the safety of substances such as foods or drugs” (“Dictionary 1”). Animal testing is literally how it sounds to others. Animals are being tested on in order to try different products made by scientists in order to better the society.
Many people have a pet in which they would never want to get hurt. Each year in the United States, over seventy million animals are hurt and killed due to scientific research. Many brands have taken the pledge to become cruelty free, but there are still multiple brands that are continuing to use animals to test their products. Animal testing should be banned because it is cruel, often ineffective, can not detect for many diseases that humans are exposed to, and can be unsafe due to the differences between animals and humans.
Everybody also can not deny that humans have tried a lot of ways to improve the life’s environment for laboratory animals in order to repay and respect what laboratory animals have done for humans. For example, humans put the efforts to build the wild environment in the lab room and maintain the breed for them. Or humans just use the animals who have a short reproduction. In addition, humans also attempt to find the method which can replace animal testing. According to Hunts in Forests of Borneo Aims to Track down Natural Drugs, Philip Shenon demonstrated that not only laboratory animal but also the plants can use for experiments, but also the plants can do it too. The tree Calophyllum Lanigerum has been shown to destroy HIV without destroying the health cells in the laboratory tests(Shenon). Nevertheless, these methods which seem to replace animal testing are too new and too less. Therefore, animal testing have created the damage in animals, but it could not compare to what animals test has done for humans. Although humans can not save animals’ rights by banning animal testing, humans try reduce the pain for animals when we apply the anesthetics in animal dissection, “Mice were anesthetized with isoflurane and exposed to it intermittently during the grafting procedure”(Ahn). Humans piecemeal understand the feeling of laboratory animals, so humans will never stop finding a new method in order to create the benefit for animals and good effect for animal testing.
Animal testing is cruel and should be banned because there are better ways to test things. My second reason is that different species of animals and humans are so different so there bodies will react differently to different things. Lastly, the animal welfare act is bypassed and animals are treated very poorly when they test in the animals. These are just some of the reasons proving animal testing is cruel and should be banned.
When people think of cheating they think of copying off a smart student in school, or having somebody else do their homework. However in the livestock industry cheating happens in many other ways. Obviously, the main goal when showing an animal is to win, or make the sale at their respective shows. How far will exhibitors actually go to win a show though? In recent years there has been controversy at many major livestock shows over drug testing, and animals testing hot for illegal drugs which means when tested there was traces found of illegal substances within the animal. This is not the only way people have been caught cheating though; some exhibitors have switched animals with another exhibitor prior to the show. Showing an animal at the county fair or state fair is supposed to be an educational experience where kids learn responsibility and hard work, not getting placed last in class because somebody cheated to win.
Consumers buy products most commonly from brands that they feel provide the best quality. They are also counting on the products to be safe. For example beauty products should not be harmful to the area it is being applied on, and hair dyes should not cause other reactions other than coloring the consumer 's hair. For companies, these are big concerns on their hands to avoid bad reputation, lawsuits, etc. There are many ways these products can be cleared and called safe. What a lot of buyers do not see is that the most commonly used method to check our products is by harming the lives of various animals. Animal testing should not be a permissible testing method that is used in the clinical and cosmetic world of products and
According to the ASPCA, 37-47% of American households are home to a dog, and 30-37% of households have cats (“Pet Statistics”). Pets are usually very important members of the family, offering unconditional love, play, and cuddles. Now imagine someone injecting or smearing chemicals and irritants on or under their skin. Or even worse, squeezing irritants into their eyes, like those found in shampoos or soaps, just to make life easier for consumers. These are only mild examples of the animal testing that goes on every single day around the world, and right here in the United States of America. Animals are kept in lonely, cold, dirty kennels, and some never see the light of day. They are tested on, force fed, and often mistreated even when
Animals have impacted human history in many ways. They are a food source, pets, and used in scientific research. Animal 's used in medical and scientific research help find cures to human disease, injury, and deficiencies. Many animals have a similar genetic makeup with humans. About half of the animal 's tested on live longer and healthier lives compared to the common house pet. Also many animals are protected by different organizations, and also a federal law. Since our genes closely resemble each other, scientists believe that discoveries like this will make humans live healthier and longer too. These experiments and test provide some insight on problems doctors and scientist face with the increase of life threatening diseases and
Animals have been used to advance medical science for thousands of years, dating back to the time of ancient Greece, where scientists such as Aristotle and Erasistratus used animals for experimentation, and Galen who is considered to be one of the most important physicians of the ancient Roman empire conducted experiments using animals that advanced the understanding of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and pharmacology (Animal Testing and Medicine 1). An Arab physician by the name of Ibn Zuhr also introduced the idea of animals being used to test experimental surgical procedures before applying them to human patients. Poisoning and severe side effects has resulted from drugs being released to the public without testing, this caused a law to
Animal testing has been practiced since the early 1920s. Animal research is used to ensure the safety of a product before it reaches the general public. These products can range from vaccinations, to the soap in your bathroom. Science has evolved drastically since the 1920s and with that evolvement there are now more cost-effective and relevant alternatives to experimentation that no longer call for the suffering of animals, and do not interfere with animal rights.
When it comes to the topic of animal testing, most of us will readily agree that the use of animals as research for the purpose of the humans concerns, that the drug is efficacy with the cosmetics to endeavor controversy and may have experience discomfort, suffering towards animals. “As the consumer in Europe would not have access to any new products, because we can’t really ensure that some of the ingredient’s will be safe to be without suitable an adequate testing”. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of animal testing, “special use of this cosmetics wave products (shampoo, hair removal, dye), will continue to mandatory the animal testing”. Whereas some are convinced that the types of animals testing will be continuing, others maintain that when the full sales ban is in place, they will simply conduct (animal testing) in non-Europe companies. There is some support for animal testing for medicine use because it helps in human health and extends human life as well. As some point they don’t support animal testing for cosmetics because it will cost and won’t justify the research on animals. Although there is no finish cosmetics products, still have some substances that have both cosmetics and medical use, Example, “include the wrinkle treatment botulinum toxin, sold and advertised under the name Botox, (Murnaghan)”. My own view, however, is that it works better than any other alternative in human testing and especially animal
